I have used several firewall apps withing the last few years...anything from XP FW to Zone FW...and i find Black Ice as the best pick...i use it with my hardware firewall (linksys b)
Tiny firewall, works well with x64
Zonealarm's truevector monitor gives me bsods. Anyone recommend a good free firewall?

im using the nvidia firewall, XP SP2 firewall, and AVG and im enjoying it. AVG catches about every virus i get from p2p downloads, and then i got its firewall protection plus windows and nvidia.
I really liked sygate till Symantec bought them out, it was free for home users. I think it was the best software firewall out, very small foot print and a awsome traffic log.
You can still download the original Sygate 5.6 here.

I've tried all the "major" versions, and Kerio is the best. Least bloat, but still user friendly. I even tried Sygate, and it's well....advanced for a newb.

yes. I have a cisco 608 router so I don't use it anymore but its the best software firewall out. Say you dont want a firewall the traffic log alone tells you every application that is trying to access the internet.
Kerio is the best.
I just installed kerio. Default install (Advanced) does not block outgoing connections.
Not very secure by default. I actually had to change some settings before it warned me about apps trying to access the net.

Mine blocks outgoing connections.
I know, cause everytime I want to access something like uTorrent, it asks me if I want let it go out.
I have the version JUST BEFORE they got bought out( version 4.20), whoever bought them, royally screwed it over. It even has a "stop ALL traffic" button, including connections inside a LAN!
default install on mine (4.2) has an applications tab on it, by default, it will "ask" for every application (an all traffic that travels that route). It even blocks Windows update & windows explorer. And on the "predefined" tab, it will even block ping in & out, and trace in & traceout
