just wondering what is the best software to edit divx/xvid movies? i need to edit clips of movies that i've ripped to my computer for a research project and put them all onto a dvd, i know to use divx2dvd to put the final movie onto a dvd, but what i don't know is what decent software is available to me to edit movies to create my 10 minute clip. any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I usually use Premiere or Premiere Elements, but I edit RAW DV footage. Never tried Divx/xvid, so I'm not sure if it will import those...Anyone know? I'd like to know myself now...
I use Adobe Premiere Elements and i have the Divx codec pack installed.
It's possible to export movie with the divx codec.

I also recommend Premiere elements. As you're only doing a short clip, and don't need long term use, you probably won't want to fork over the cash to buy a copy. With that in mind, you should just get the trial version from Adobe.com - it should be full featured enough and works for 30 days. But yes - very good software.

Canopus Procoder all the way, not the fastest but the quality is awesome.
