View Full Version : 7900 GTX Availability
Just curious about this...What's everyones opinion on how available these cards will be? Will they be as hard to find as the 7800 GTX 512's or will they actually put enough on the market for everyone? Awhile ago I was ready to pull the trigger on the BFG 7800 GTX 512's but they were so hard to find and finally when u could find one their prices were outrageous! So instead of pulling the trigger on a overpriced pair of 7800's Ive decided to wait for the 7900, and if the 7900 doesnt impress me enough to fork over the cash most likely I'll be going for the 7800's which we should see a drop in price once the 7900 hits the market floor. I hope!

Personally I think we'll see plenty of them, but theres really no way of knowing until a couple weeks after they are released.
I really hope they are plentiful upon launch, I just sold my 7800GT in anticipation on the 7900GTX 512MB being available at a great price.
I am currently using a P3 500, 384MB RAM PC just until I can get my new video card. Oooooh the agony. :p
I wonder if some manufactures will be taking pre-orders?

Burpy, isn't that Epox board in your sig the s754 one?

Yes, it's the s754 SLi board. :)
I got a great deal on my AMD64 3700+ CPU ($168) & decided to stay with s754.
This board has been solid for the two months that I have had it.
I wonder if some manufacturers will use 7900GT cores to produce and sell them as 7800GTX 512's ?
Far fetched maybe....

That's a interesting question? A overclocked 7800 Core maybe?

I wonder how well the 7900GT will overclock... if they overclock extremely well (within 10% of GTX performance) I might just get one of those. If I only spend $300 this time, I could justify selling it and getting a G80 in the fall :p
Hopefully they will be widely available ... because i want 2 of those babies!! :D

Good prices so far. It's a nice deal I think. I sell my 7800's to get two of these and I don't have much to pay^^
$500 for the 7900 GTX 512? Is that pretty acurate?

I had a rep at Best Buy search the store's computer for 7900's. Two BFG's showed up: $599.99 for the 7900GTX 512 and $329.99 for 7900GT 256. No date was listed when they will be available.

Oh man u are sooooo right! I honestly dont know how nvidia lets people get away with that crap. When I was searching for the BFG 7800's once I saw them going for $999. Who in their right mind would pay that?

some people have lots and lots of money.. and if they want it that much they will buy it.

I dont think best buy price gouges, its mainly online stores.
But you gotta assume that the bfg is gonna be overclocked out of the box rather then have stock clocks, so you eventually pay a bit more for it.

We all know that eVGA will have an uber-1337-hax0r-KO-MikeTyson-Hyper-Superclocked-ACS7.9-Edition that's going to smash the BFG so I don't think they should be charging a premium for a mild overclock with reference design cooling and components.
BFG overclocks are usually crap. 20 mhz here and there. Whats the point.

I agree... BFG is getting there butts kicked by evga, xfx and others on the OCing of factory cards.
BFG better step up there clocks this next round.

Make them use my name for the card!!!: uber-1337-hax0r-KO-MikeTyson-Hyper-Superclocked-ACS7.9-Edition
Seriously though, based on price and available info, do you think this will be on par or slightly less than the X1900XTX? If not, I can still cancel my order tomorrow for the card and wait, I just want a card for Spring Break lol. Sorry to hijack the thread, but a yes or no would be great??
You might as well keep the x1900 xtx. I feel that the 7900 would be there or thereabouts in performance but may be slightly slower in performance. Where Nvidia would take the lead would be in dual gpu and quad sli cards.

It seems to me that Nvidia doesn't care about being the best with the 7900, because they know their Quad-SLI boards will kick ATI to the floor. It seems that everyone is forgetting this. Why have the fastest single board when you can have a dual core board?
7900 GT's great price and performance, while Quad-SLI will dominate the ultimate performance category.
