What do you think of the idea that I get a PCIe MoBo and a good mid-range card to tide me over until Vista and G80??

My A8V is doing my head in and I cant afrod a new MoBo and high end card :-(

I say wait. You have a 7800GS and while the 7600GT is a great card as long as you donīt use a lot of AA/AF. Q4 isnīt that far away and the 7800GS should hold you quite nicely above the water, just imagine if you had a 6800nu like me, then you know what suffering means. lol Put $50 back each month, and by Q4 youīll be able to buy yourself one kick ass rig!

From what I've read the 7600GT doesn't seem that much slower, if at all, than the 7800GS. You should be able to get a motherboard + 7600GT for roughly the same amount you'd get for the GS, so if you're having issues with your motherboard I say go for it.

Of course, if the mobo does indeed have issues, do the PCIe jump with the 7600GT. Ebay the GS and you should get what you orginally paid for it, if not even a little extra.

Yeh the MoBo is having some crazy issues, always has. I know the 7600GT would be slower than the 78 I currently have (especially at 1280x1024 which is the res I play at).

I was looking for a cheap and stable shortcut to PCIe not an upgrade in performance. I'll give think about it over the weekend, thanks for the suggestions and idea's chaps.

ttfn.

OK - I've decided to buy the:

XFX 7600GT XXX Edition 12 G71 pipes @ (590/1600)

and a Gigabytle PCIe NF4 MoBo

Have to wait a few days for the RMA on that dodgy 7800GS though.

both these items come to less than the GS did!!! - u live and learn......

The 7600GT is a very nice card, even with AA it seems to perform better than the 6800GT/Ultra, at least in the benchies I saw.

Your not kidding - its actually faster in ALL tests than the 7800GS I just exchanged it for!!!!

It's due to the higher clock speed and w/o AF/AA it doesn't stress the memory as much so it can perform better in these conditions.

lol - its funny looking through this forum this week - I am really the ONLY person to buy a 7600GT??

Probably, yeah... :) So, how about some benchies?

Benchies in a few days - I've gotta re-install the OS and take the wife out for dinner!!!!!!!!!

I also need a new CPU cooler as the fan on my Zalman just died :-(

system is pending delivery of the new cooler tommorrow.

I have been considering a 7600GT SLI setup -- I want to run with the higher FSAA modes that SLI enables ... the games I play are slow-paced so frame-rate isn't a massive issue, and of course I'd get more time to look at the luvvly non-jaggies!

But a 7900GT is cheaper and seems like less effort ...

No but forums like these are dominated by the highend-crowd. So all you hear is 7900 this and x1900 that.

I'm thinking about going PCI-e with the 7600GT. Mobo + 7600GT costs about the same as 7800GS and performance is similar.

yeh - I actually just came from a 7800GS and the performance is very close.

Also the Sli MoBo + 7600GT was Ģ20 cheaper than the 7800GS plus it gives me PCIe and SLi support!!

im a happy camper.

If you are wanted to go with a cheaper solution and wanting to go with PCIe and you are thinking about getting two 7600GTs ,then IMO I think you would be better off getting a 1900XT for $435 because it will be faster then the two plus it has 512mb of memory and it will do HDR and FSAA at the same time which none of nvidia cards can do yet.If You already have a 7800GS that should hold you over.

I returned the GS - its was an overpriced disapointment TBH, I also have no intention of using 2x7600GT's for SLi.

This card is just to hold me over until Dec/Jan time and I needed to get my ass onto the PCIe platform ready for that upgrade

Your not the only one, I'll be getting an EVGA 7600GT soon. My 6600GT has been great, and I am looking forward to it's successor :)

I don't play games at any resolution higher than 1200 x 1024, and usually use 2x AA or no AA, however I use as much AF as I can get away with. So 7600GT should work out well, and save money for the 8600GT!

Well, I said that about the 7800GS all along.... better to go PCIe anyways.

Looks like my 7600GT should be here by end of next week (shipping out the 6800GS tomorrow).

I've already benched the 7800GT and 6800GS. Going to throw in the 7900GT and 7600GT when they arrive.
