Because the GPU cores are highly underclocked and donīt need bigger coolers to operate at the stock clocks.

I have to agree they gone it so they can lower the voltage on the GPU and limit them from becoming a better buy then the 7900GTX.

I can't wait to see people releasing hard mods or simple BIOS tweaks to upper the voltage on the 7900GTs. Then the 7900GT GPU clock will get really close to 7900GTX's clock, of course with an aftermarket cooling solution.
