Bahahah! $580 for a Barton 3000+ lmao! Thats as bad as Intel with their 3.06 Ghz P4! lmao! :jumping:
Maybe, but that's how all new CPU's are priced :)
Wait one week and it's under 500 I bet :)

The new AMD procs are definitely no longer cheap :(
I'm sure I'll live though. If they can improve that like they have in the past, I'll be good.
Bartons, on the other hand, I suspect will always be a bit expensive. Extra cache is quite a die size increase.
and I don't know if they have heat shields now or not...

If by shields you mean a heat spreader, no they don't.

OK. Guess we'll have to wait for Hammers for that then

But Bartons have more total cache now hehe ;) (512L2 + 128L1 vs P4's 512L2+64L1) , plus the "barton" based XP3000+ is same speed as normal 2800+ now is, so even with 2700+ literaly owning 3Ghz P4,
Barton XP3000+ with more cache will surely be even faster and where I live we have AMD's somewhat cheaper hehe :D plus on pricewatch: $629 Pentium 4 3.06GHz lol and it shows an arrow up(wtf).
The prob comes proly same as with XP2600-2800, "availability"
And these early barts dont are still using 166fsb.

They are cheap up until a certain point. AMD's 1500 - 2100 is a pricepoint that can't be beat! It's a great deal. But there higher up CPU's start getting expensive unfortunetly. However AMD motherboards are generally more affordable than Intel ones, so it all balances out I think
:D

The good old Intel fanboys vs. AMD fanboys threads... :afro2:
I'll just buy what gives me the best cost/performance ratio, and usually that's AMD it seems.
