Processor: XP2700
Motherboard: Nforce2(the good old Asus deluxe model of course) :D
RAM: RAM not my friend, someone will suggest something however:D
Hard drive: Western Digital 200GB
CD/DVD-ROM: Pioneer Slot loader, the only way to go
CD-ReWriter: Liteon 48x
Graphics card: 9700, ack I feel dirty, or hold out for the FX
Sound card: probably not needed with the Nforce2 :D
Monitor: 19" Iyaama will keep you happy
Speakers: I cant remember the name of them, Pelly was selling some I believe
Keyboard: personally I love the microsoft natural keyboard

Thanks.

However, I certainly won't need 200GB!

I'll be happy with around 80GB.

Well, my system just about goes into that price limit.

Processor: P4 2.8GHz
Motherboard: Giga-byte 8INXP (Granite Bay board)
RAM: 1GB (2 512s) Corsair XMS 3200
Hard Drive: 36GB Seagate SCSI 15krpm as boot drive, 2 WD 80GB w/8mb cache in RAID 0 Array
DVD: Pioneer 16x Slot Drive
CD-RW: Lite-On 48x
Graphics Card: ATI AIW 9700
Sound Card: M-Audio Revo
PSU: Antec TruPower 480w
Case - Koolance Cheiftec (watercooled, black)

Of course, if you add in speakers, which are the Cambridge 550s, Monitor which is a Sony 21", mouse which is an MX700 (logitech), and keyboard which is also logitech, well that's about another thousand added. I guess for me total I spent $3500 with everything, including monitor and all. But I think every penny was worth it. :D

I would suggest at least 120GB hard drive space. You would be suprised how fast space goes.:)

vampire is close to what I'd recommend, to fill in his mem suggestion I'd say 2xCorsair 256MB PC3500 or 3200, and any of the WD 8MB drives, size depending on your needs. Also, either the low end or the high end Logitech 5.1 speakers, not sure what the model numbers are off the top of me head, those are good depending on the cash that you have to work with. If the Pioneer slot drive is too much, then you can always go for the Toshiba 16X DVD, good drive, and replace the M$ natural keyboard with the good old M$ internet keyboard for only $10, since I hate those damned curved keyboards.

And lastly, for a case, I was looking at one of these for myself, you might want to consider as well.
