Hello all. I was wondering if perhaps some of you guys could recommend a nice speaker system since mine died on me this weekend. I'm not looking for any 5.1 or higher, just a nice 2 or maybe 3 speaker system for my rig.

Thanks in advance

Bookshelves? I'm using Dali Concept 1 speakers which cost me 200$ and they sound a million times better than my Logitech Z5500 and Gigaworks 7.1 speakers. Thanks to the X-fi CMSS Virtual you don't really need more than a pair of bookshelves for great 3d sound in games.

How about an M-Audio Studiiophile LX4 2.1 system? Here's a review (http://www.maximumpc.com/2005/12/m-audio_studiop_1.html).

I've heard nothing but good things about these, and if I had the money for a 7.1 setup with these, I would get them :)

Klipsch if you're going 2.1 for sure. I own them and they are top notch. :)

The 2.1 Klipsch speaker system does sound good if you want to spend that much. But for $115 the Logitech THX Z-5300e 280 Watts RMS 5.1 Speaker system sounds good for the price. But if you are not wanting to spend a lot of money and get sound that will surprise you then the Logitech X-530 5.1 for $55 is a good deal.

I wouldn't get a 5.1 system for 55$ if soundquality was of any concern...
It would be nice if we knew how much you're ready to spend on the speakers and where you live, because if I remember correctly the Dali Concept 1 speakers I have are not sold in the US, only their more expensive models.

Money is not really an issue and I live in southern California. Just looking for a nice 2 or 3 speaker system that will sound good. I don't have room for 5 or more speakers and I really don't feel like wall mounting them lol.

Thanks for the suggestions so far :D

I like the Klipsch THX 2.1 What's nice is you can plug them into your computer and they also have an input for additional sources (I have my Sirius Radio hooked up to them as well) and also a headphone jack for gaming.

Not to mention they sound great

the B&W 800s are a good choice

I don't see how I would be able to connect these to my computer, or am I missing something?

Which sound card will you be using, I dont see anything under your sig, so Im guessing onboard?

Yes, I'm using onboard for right now. I'm still debating the X-FI but I'm undecided.

you'd probably have to get an adapter, but it would be worth it becasue they are great speakers.

Don't have them yet, but I've heard them in a demo room and plan to buy them for my home theatre. I'm sure you could find a way to plug them into a PC.

I may go for them if I can find a way to plug them into my PC :)

When it comes to the X-fi it's really good if you're just going to play in stereo and game a lot. CMSS Virtual is sort of like Dolby Virtual Speaker, only much better. If you turn off all of the virtual stuff you still have a very good music card, so I think you should get one.
Since I'm still new to "hifi" and all that I only have experience with Dali speakers, so I'd recommend these (http://www.dali-usa.com/us/page245.aspx?sub=213&prod=261) if you want something that sounds really nice, or these (http://www.dali-usa.com/us/page245.aspx?sub=213&prod=565) if you're crazy. Only 20000$!
If you zoom those pictures it takes a second and then it downloads a much higher rez version.

If they are just speakers then you need a reciever to power them and to plug them into your PC.

Exactly! Nothing more annoying then buying something like this and not be able to use it because I do not have an amp hehe

Well, it's either going to a bunch of audio stores and listen to what you like and can afford and buy an amp, or buying multimedia speakers like the ones from creative, klipsch or Logitech. The first option will provide superior sound quality at a higher price, while the second will be cheaper and more convenient since you don't have to worry about the amp. I have no idea what speakers you'll be able to choose from in an audio store since I live in Sweden and is familiar with more local brands. Your choice!

If you are just wanting a 3 speaker set up then the Klipsch THX 2.1 would be a good choice.
