View Full Version : Is MX700 overrated or is mine just faulty?

I have had this mouse now for 2 weeks and I have to say its not as good as they say. I must have gotten a faulty one because it skips. It is not really as acurate as my $20 mouse. All my scores in my online games have dropped. I have put that base everywhere imaginable except on the top of my head and it still skips. I am sending it back for the MX500.

Any of you with the MX700 find that it skips in games?

Mine didn't skip, but I thought the movement was very awkward, so I took it back.

Heh, MX700 is the best mouse I've ever used....

The MX700 is great in my book too. When I used it in combination with other mouses, I seemed to have strange things going on.
I think. It was a while ago.

I would rather have had the 500 to begin with, but I've had no problems.

You have it too close to something sending out some serious EM interference. I had the base station next to my monitor, and it skipped. Moved it a foot and a half away, voila, it works beautifully.

Check the surface you use your mouse on. My MX700 and MS Intellipoint are both very fussy if you want perfect performance. My MS Mouse likes a fine random pattern on a black surface, the MX700 likes even finer patterns on white/lighter surface.

Try this at home:

1. Grab a few items from around the house eg. piece of cloth, wood board, cardboard folder, piece of printer paper etc.
2. Open MS Paint (Yay, you've found a use for it!)
3. Move your hand rapidly in a horizontal motion as if trying to draw a line between two points about 10cm on screen. You can go vertical too!
4. Now do this for each surface you've tried and you will find significantly different results. For example, this cloth mouse mat I'm using at the moment allows me to draw pixel perfect horizontal lines, and with rapid movement, only varies a few pixels. If I switch to just the wood grain table beneath, the error increases a lot.

When they boasted about how these optical mice 'worked on almost any surface' they forgot to mention how differently they may work. Truth is, I've got a $5 mouse in the cupboard which gives the MS and Logitech mice a good race for accuracy, but you have to clean it once a week, and it's cable gets caught around the desk.

Final note, don't waste US$20 on those 'fancy' mouse mats, go to your local hardware & stationary superstores and find some surfaces that work sweet with your mouse. My MS mouse runs perfectly on a large rectangle of black plastic that used to be a folder. Folder + double sided tape + cable clip (for mouse cable) = < US$2.

Another thing to watch our for is using 3M optical mouse pads (the skinny ones). The MX700 does *not* like them at all...

no problems here, although I've moved my base at least once due to interference, other than that it been fine.

I'm using one on this computer I've been working on today...and it works surprisingly well. In fact I had been thinking to myself how surprised I am at what a spiffy mouse it is. Perhaps yours is faulty? As this one is *very* smooth *shrug*.

No skipping, looks cool, convenient charging station, performance is great, even in fps's.

everything perfect here... even with all the various 'signals' being emitted all around my computer... :)

I use a 2 mouse setup... I prefer using my old intellimouse optical for gaming and use my logitech for everything else...

mess around with the sample rates as well :)

the recharge features is what sold me on this baby :)
