hello, I have just purchased a nforce 2 motherboard, and am about to buy a xp cpu to go with it however...... I thought back to when 133fsb replaced the 100fsb of cpus, buying a 100fsb cpu then easily changing the fsb to 133 making a 1ghz cpu a 1.333 ghz one and saving an absolute fortune!
this leads to today and my question is this... can this be done with the athlon xp cpu's as well, its either get a 2700+ cpu with 333 fsb or get a 2400+ cpu with 266fsb and change to 333fsb which will make it 2.2 ghz!(2800+) all this and it is almost half the price of the 2700+ they are both t-breds.
is this possible!????
Many thanks
Martin

2.2ghz was a guestimate though if I upped the fsb to 333 without making multiplyer adjustments it would come out at 2.5ghz! (15x multiplyer) the 2.2 ghz guestimate is based on lowering the multiplyer to 13.5, but then again thinking about it I would have to unlock the bridges to be able to lower the multiplyer anyway.

2.2 on a 2400 is easily obtainable...
but with a 2700 or 2800 you could break 2.5 on air
Which nForce2 board did you buy? Using the 1002.001 BIOS with my A7N8X Deluxe made it possible for me to lower the multiplier on my 2600+. Of course, my processor supports the 333 MHz fsb. However, I was able to raise the fsb to 200 MHz by lowering the multiplier. Now, I just need to buy RAM that allow me to set aggressive memory timings at that speed. I just wanted to address that comment about being unable to change the multiplier with newer Athlons. To get better info on this subject you should visit the forums at nForcersHQ (http://www.nforcershq.com/). If you spend a bit of money on nice air cooling, you will probably be able to run a 266 fsb processor at 333, but you will need to lower the multiplier.

yes it will run at 333mhz i run a 2400xp abd i can boot at
133x15= 2400xp
166x12= 2600xp
166x12.5 2700xp
166x13 2800xp
i have water cooling but i can run at 2550mhz with a max temp of 39c i could hit 2600 or 2700 mhz need more v-core the a7n8x only goes upto 1.85 v-core but with air you can run a 2400xp at a 2600xp or 2700xp no prob at all
