Both are the same price but im kinda leaning towards the Gainward 7800GT 512MB Card:

Gainward BLISS GeForce 7800 GT "Goes Like Hell" 512MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)

- Core clock 450MHz+
- 20 Pixel Pipelines
- 512MB 1300MHz+ GDDR3 Ultra Fast 1.4ns Memory
- 256-Bit Memory interface
- 7 Vertex Shaders
- Memory Bandwidth - 41.6GB/sec
- Fill Rate - 9.80 billion pixels/sec
- RED PCB, and copper/red heatsink for improve cooling and style/looks

as it`ll be going in my new shuttle its the only single slot card i can find that offers 512MB.

The 7900GT no contest. Dude, if they are the same price, get the fast, more pipelined one. You don't need 512MB.

Also, read the Pureoverclock article that clearly states that extra VRAM makes a difference.

If you have Doom3 then play Ultra quality with 4x AA & it will rock ur world. Yes it can be played on 256mb cards but it stutters for England. With 512mb card its smooth as butter. COD2 is much less laggy at 1280x1024 everything maxed out with 4xAA & 8XAF

Next gen games will need 512mb VRAM so this card will last longer than 1 yr if u need to. For same or less price I think it's worth it.

well ive already got a 7800GTX 512MB card but didnt think it would fit in my new shuttle im getting but it will so i`ll just be keeping that and for the record i would of chose the 7800GT 512MB card over the 7900GT 256MB.

I would go for the 7900gt. I think more pipes is better than the extra memory.

Each to their own.

I have an LG 17" LCD and only game at 1280x1024, my native resolution.
Most of the higher end cards start to show performance gains at 1600 or even higher. I have no intention of going to those resolutions.

I will wait for DX10 card before upgrading in the sure knowledge that my card will play games at 1280 no probs and hopefully in Ultra mode for new games like I do in Doom3.:D

I would say the 7900GT as 512MB at the moment is more then enough 512MB will come in handy if you game above 1600 with 4X FSAA and 16x AF.

Hi Dazz,

I'd have to disagree on that one. I just reinstalled FEAR on my XP64 install and with this new card I can play at 1280x1024 (modded the .cfg file) with 2x AA & 4xAF butter smooth.

On 256mb GT I could only play at 4xAF and it stuttered for England. Sometimes it took 3 seconds to go around a corner and in a firefight it became a slide show.

Same scenes are now perfect with no stutter so the extra vram must be kicking in and less page file usage.

BTW I hope u beat the scousers tomorrow!!
