Zone Alarm is much better because it allows control over outbound traffic as well.
Read this article to see why Black Ice is a bad idea: http://grc.com/lt/leaktest.htm
I read about this one on another forum, I think it was at dslreports.com

If they fixed that random BSOD problem with Kerio/Tiny under WinXP, then yes, it's good.
Otherwise, avoid at all costs.

I use Zone Alarm Plus 3.something, heh, no viruses or successful attacks hehe, I recommend Zone Alarm :D

The built-in firewall in good routers works well too...plus the new Linksys firmware allows its routers to integrate flawlessly with ZoneAlarm Pro (it's actually touted as a feature).

Back before I had a router, I ran Kerio/Tiny on here. I kept getting these weird BSODs, so finally, I looked around at some Kerio/Tiny support groups. Apparently, it was a very well known bug with K/T and XP that caused BSODs all the time.
Probably fixed by now.

DO your PC's get hammered as well, It seems to me that it wasn't as bad before.
I mean Zonel alarm records a few blocked "intrusions" every second
After having the PC on for more than a week non-stop the Zone Alarm used up all the memory  ..
OK all needed was a reset but
:wtf:

No Ive never had alot of attacks on my network at home. Im not using anything at the moment, for some reason if I use Kerio now, my second computer cannot access the internet, no matter what I do, it blocks other pcs on my network  Samething when I tried it on the inlaws network! The only thing that I can think of is a windows update is causing problems?

I was just cracked a few days ago and had netwatcher up by chance. It looked like the cracker was trying to plant a virus, and all i could think is cut the isp connection, and didn't even log the event(Aww crap). It happened when i was here browsing this site, and i was wondering if anyone knew about free firewalls. I really need the best firewall for free(NO Warez). Please PM me.  :afraid: :o

If you care about outbound traffic. I only care about hackers attacking me, not the fact that a program I'm running has tried to connect to the internet.
If you're worried about Viruses, Spyware, Trojans and other nasty stuff be more careful about what you download and run.

i love Zone Alarm cause it monitors outbound traffic.......once i got virus, my anti-virus software didn't see it, but ZoneAlarm blocked it,notifyed me and i was able to clean it......

Well if you don't want to take preventive action then you may as well not have a firewall at all. The point is to find something that totally secures your system, which means securing both the downstream and the upstream.
ZoneAlarm and Sygate are two Free alternatives to Black Ice that have every type of protection you need and then some.

The option to disable "Random BSOD" is only available on the registered version ;)

You are more likely to be the victim of a trojan or worm than you are to be the specific target of a hacker.
Even legit software like Windows Media Player 9 sends a mini software audit from your machine to Microsoft without your knowledge.
By the way, I prefer ZoneAlarm. The only annoying thing is that is doesn't uninstall very well.
