Nice, but that needs some AF badly.

The trees turn to sprites a little early.. hopefully that can be changed :)

Now I know I'll be able to play it well. :D

The trees turn to sprites a little early.. hopefully that can be changed :)If an older game like Far Cry can give us the ability to control it I would think (hope) that Oblivion will as well.

Yes, we should be able to modify it in the .ini files :)

When I first started playing MW my frame rates were in the teens with an 8500.

10fps is pretty low, but in context, it is only a 7800gtx 256mb(I assume 256mb) and that has to be one of the most graphics intense scenes there is, with that huge view of the the whole city from afar. Newer cards like the 7900gtx and the 1900xtx would score a lot better. More ram might push it up more too, as I have 2gb.

My 1900XTX is 2.5 times faster in SM3.0 tests than a 7800gtx, and in FEAR its about 75% faster, so hopefully in that scene my comp will be able to maintain 20-25fps. Plus I play 1280x1024 so maybe even 30fps is possible. Being an RPG 30fps is acceptible, I probably only averaged 20fps on my comp the first time I played Morrowind, but I still played it for months.

Wow that sucks...That basically looks like farcry, minus the horrible performance...

I guess 1600 4AA won't be possible with any setup in this game...

Yea it actually does seem to resemble Farcry somewhat :)

Personally I am looking forward to playing this on my new monster rig at the end of the year - gonna play it on my 360 and HDTV for now though.

Exept that Far Cry ran much better O_o

I took this while I still had my GeForce5700U with the same graphics setting I used for gameplay:

4800+ dual-core and x1900xt? *Braces for more 'you ****ing ****er!' shouts* FRAPS says 60fps just about everywhere save for really super-heavily forested areas, at which point it's never dropped below 30. A fellow ed says its runs super-smooth on his 7800GT, and only started to chop when he took it home to try on a 9800.

AMD dual-core owners, get yer drivers and SP2 hotfixes installed (for dual-core). Hadn't bothered, but when I did, frame rate jacked up double-digits. Definitely a game that's going to put paid to dual-core on PC.

Desslock pointed out elsewhere, if you sync Morrowind to what was then average hardware and correlate that to Oblivion now, Oblivion performs notably better. So relatively speaking, bang for buck is better in 2006 than it was in 2001.

AA and bloom are off, HDR's on, vsync enabled, distant rendering maxed...essentially everything set to max defaults (auto-detect, which reports 'ultra-high-quality'). In the game, it still sets item and people distance rendering fairly low. I left item rendering alone, since I don't care if I can see a sword on a table from a half mile off (couldn't anyway), and set people rendering to max with zero percent impact on frame rate. The upside = you can spot creatures/guards/whatever poking around several hills over. Think Weathertop-to-East-Road kind of scan distance.

EDIT: Forgot to answer your mem question John...1 GB.

Doesn´t mention what res and how much AF, but just another hint on the performance of Oblivion.

farcry is nothing short of amazing. How old is it now? 3 years? Its still one of the best looking games around.
