doom 3 lockups

doom 3 always locks up my pc with a loop no matter what quality settings. I tried EVERYTHING then changed to 4x agp and no more lock-ups .Does this mean my motherboard is so lame it cant handle 8x AGP with a high usage game such as doom3 ?

It's possible, some cards/mobos can't do 8x together. However, the performance loss going to 4x is pretty much nothing.
