How long do coaches last?

Here in South Africa especially with rugby, a coach is lucky if he survives longer than 3 or 4 seasons. Because usually if the team performs badly it's the coach that normally has to go.

How is it with American sports? How long does coaches in American football, baseball, and basketball, for instance, last. I've heard of teams who had the same coach for as long as 15 years.

well really depends on how well the coach turns around the team. (hes probably hired in the first place to replace the old coach who couldnt win). There are coaches in our history to last 40+ years on one team (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2373053), but others can last 2-4 years if they dont win much.
