Creative Labs Audigy Gamer
Is there any real benefit of upgrading an 1800 Athlon Xp to a 2000+Hi uNdErNiNe and welcome to the forums.
Save your money and then buy a faster AthlonXP that will provide a bigger performance gain when prices are cut down the road.
I have to agree with sbp. I upgraded my XP2000 to an XP2400. To be honest, I can' t see any difference in performance. Although, at least the XP2000 wasn't wasted because I have a second computer which had a 1.2 TBird.

you're going to see ~10% improvement max. which means in many situations you're going to get less. i'd say it isn't really worth the extra money for such a small performance boost.

don't look at the PRs just concentrate on teh actual MHz. if anything the 1800+ MHz is only about 60MHz lower than the 2000 model or something like that.

I agree..
If your going to go for a new chip..Go for the Jackpot..Dont upgrade unless you go for the gusto..

Im no PC wiz but I can see to buy that would be a waist of money. If your going to upgrade go w/ a 2400+ or higher.

thanks for the help, thats what i thought considering theres only a 100mhz jump... damn i should just overclock the system a bit and save the 87 bucks for something better... thanks

doesnt anyone know if the KT333 boards will support the new barton core, or will it require a entirely new chipset?

Im not 100% sure but I think the answer is No because the KT333 mobo FSB is 266 while the Barton Core chip tech. is designed for 333 FSB.
If Im wrong dont hesistate to mention it.

i dont see why it wouldnt considering that it's capable of a 333 memory bus, i mean on a college budget it would be nice, but eh what the hell, i mean credit debt can only trail you until you die

That sounds like a solid plan... buy a super computer and then go live with the swis...

I think KT333 support for the Barton cores is more dependent on the motherboard company than anything else. For instance, since MSI has released follow on KT3Ultra2 as well as a KT400 motherboard since I bought my KT3Ultra ARU, I don't think they plan to add support for the Barton-based processors. It's just as well as far as I'm concerned, because between that and the buggy Via PCI issues, I'm moving to the Asus A7N8X Deluxe (nForce2), which I KNOW supports Bartons. I'm also buying a 2500+ as soon as I can get one to replace my 2100+. (There's even less of a MHz difference between the 2100+ and the 2500+ than between the 1800+ and 2000+, btw. The extra cache as well as the more overclockable core are why I'm doing it though.)

Well yes, the 2500 is a 2200 with more cache :p
Heheh.
