Well I just upgraded my 9800 pro to a 6800gs.
So far I am pleased with the upgrade.
I read that it may be possible to unlock the extra piplines and wanted to know how to go about trying this.

I got the Evga version. its a 6800 GS OC. Currently clocked at 400/1100.
Anyone been able to hit 425-450 with the stock cooler?

Is your card the AGP verson? the PCI E 6800 gs does not unlock but here is a link that explains how with the AGP card: http://www.hardforum.com/printthread.php?t=841145&pp=40

I have the BFG 6800 gs and it unlocked fine havn't clocked it yet.

Well i just clocked my card and it did 431 core stable for around 30 minits but it was a bit hot going past 70 degrees so its at 400 now. It wouldnt pass the test at 440 though so I think 431 is about the limmit on this heatsink. The stock clocks on this card were 370/1000.

The memory was stable at 1100 but I didnt want to push it more.

I also went from the 9800 pro to this card and the performance increase was night and day for me. ts a great card :D

have you tested any games yet? im curious how that card will do as i am thinking of getting a 6800GS and i have the same mobo as you. Wondering if you have any problems with any games. (i.e, stuttering)

So far i have tested it on GT Legends and HL2, there were no problems at all, this mobo seems to like the card and both games will run at full detail with no problems. HL2 rarely dips below 70 FPS and GTL wont go below 40 at the worst. I have had the 6800gs for only one day so its early days yet but so far the performance has been fine, feels fast enough :)

I ran it on 3dmark 03 (did not have time to download 06) and it scored 10244 (unlocked) but some settings were not optomised for benchmarking because i was just checking to see if the card was stable after putting it in. maybe that gives you in idea of its performance. :)

the 6800GS is a good mid range card and you should see a improvement in your games.

Thanks for posting about that..i have the exact same board and i am a little worried i might have issues since i heard the 6800 series has some stuttering etc. i got a new PSU and a new card is on the way.

Are you running the latest drivers/bios update and video card drivers?

whats the GS OC? as that is what i saw from that link..im assuming overclock?

Im running the 5.11 nforce mobo driver and the latest nVidia video card driver. The mobo bios I am running is the F15 one, havnt needed to upgrade to any other bios like the F18.

whats the GS OC? as that is what i saw from that link..im assuming overclock?

Yeh its overclock, BFG put its 6800gs clocks to 370/1050 from 350/1000 nVidia reference design. not really much of an oc imo but every little helps :)

To unlock the pipes, there are two ways:
1. RivaTuner
2. BIOS Editor

With "RivaTuner", you can just install a NVStrap, and enable the pipes through Windows. Recommended, easy to use.

With BIOS Editor, you will have to find a 6800GT BIOS and flash it onto your GS BIOS. This is not as safe as RivaTuner.
To Flash your video BIOS, you have to have a floppy drive and a boot floppy loaded with "NVFlash"
Download from MVKTech.net, a 6800GT AGP card's bios with the same manufacturer as your card. This bios file will be _____.rom
Then you type (after being shown the A:/> thing): nvflash -4 -5 -6 ____.rom
Restart and you're doen. Again, something may go wrong and your card might not work. You should definitely use RivaTuner first to test the pipes to see if they're damaged or not

You can download all these by Googling for them or MVKTech.net's Download section.

Well I used RivaTuner and I was able to unlock it :D

Now for an Overclock. I have the Evga 6800 GS OC. It came at 400/1100.
Im going to try for 425.

nice, what temps are you getting? mine are 51 idle and 72 under load at 400.

when i had it at 431 it was around 79 under load so i dont want to run it all the time like that. probably should get a better hsf.
