Hello all you good peeps!

I just bought a new HD 60 gig and formated and installed win xp pro but when i boot up i get about a minute of black screen i can see the first post and then the minute if nothing and then the xp logo comes on everything else seems ok after, the other HD booted real fast where did i go wrong? i printed a few installation gides from difrent sites and followed the instructions but no change.

the other OS was installed at a pc shop and this is my second OS installation and first win xp instal so i think i might of gone wrong some where?

does anyone have any tips for this OS newbie or maybe point me in the right direction, I gues the eazy way would be to take my PC to the shop and have them do it but i really whant to learn to do my own repairs.

Thanx any and all help is apreciated very much!

Not sure if it is the same problem... but when installed a new hard disc a while ago, I had a similar problem where it would pause after post for about a minute I think while it attempted to autodetect the hard disc. Turns out that although it should be correct to have the hard disc jumper on 'Master' I had to move it to 'Cable Select' to solve the problem. I guess anythings worth a try if it does no harm.

Hey thanx Jon for your propt reply

I will try your sugestion and hopefully that will clear up the problem and i also noticed that when i boot up the first time it doesn't recognise the hard drive till i enter bios and re-afirm that my HD is first to boot i dont really change anything but it seems to boot after?
maybe changing the jumper is all i need ?

Thanx again

set your network speed to whatever it is instead of Auto.

run Bootvis (use Google, should be first link that comes up), and use that. Should fix you right up.

Its sounding more and more like the problem I had. Sometimes it would pause for a minute or so and then detect the hard disc. Other times it would pause the same but fail to autodetect it. My problem was that I set the jumper to Master even though I only had one device. Putting the jumper on cable select sorted it out.

I assume that also you formatted the disc NTFS?
