View Full Version : Need a bit of help with flashing bios 6800u agp

ok, I have an AGP 6800 ultra


I am trying to flash the bios to the newest version.... the one I tried gave me

"Pci subsystem ID mismatch"

and some stuff was like

:image:107d.0205
:Adapter:107d.2994

and said something about those not matching...


I just want to update it to the newest firmware without rendering my card useless, i read somewhere about some command line options that would bypass some checks... but will doing that possibly ruin my card? (i would imagine the checks are there for a reason)

plz dont respond with, "Dont flash your bios its not safe" or w/e...


I just need help finding a bios that will work with an

Nvidia 6800 Ultra 256mb AGP (company = leadtek)

i dont know if you need this too but my motherboard is an "Asus sk8n"

the bios i tried was
nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra BIOS
Card : nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra
Chipset : nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra
Version : 5.40.02.10.15
Memory : 256MB

You can get everything you need to do this at mvktech.net. They have a bios editor (Nbitor) and the newest bios for your card. I am not sure how skilled you are at these things so if you need help let me know!

well the bios i tried, i thought was the newest bios for my card... but i got that error... so i need some help finding a working bios for my card... (oh and i was using nvflash, so ill take a look at nbitor first and post back here if i need more help)

You should normally only be flashing with newer versions of bios when it fixes a problem your card actually has !

And the ONLY bios that will not show any ID errors when flashing is the one that is currently on your card !

So when flashing with any different revision of bios, or maybe just a different manufacturers bios, it is usually necessary to use the nvflash "error override switches" as follows,

Flash the bios in DOS using nvflash.exe v5.25

nvflash -r (removes any protection)

nvflash -b ORIGBIOS.ROM (saves original bios)

nvflash -4 -5 -6 BIOSNAME.ROM (flash new bios file)

However because of DOS filename restrictions, "ORIGBIOS.ROM" and "BIOSNAME.ROM" must have no more than 8 char's in first part of filename and no more than 3 char's in extender part, otherwise DOS will not recognise the command.

And note; the -4 -5 -6 command switches will force a flash regardless of any ID mismatches, so always just select to continue.

ok thanks =) so, seeing as im flashing to an NVIDIA bios... of my exact card... and its an un-edited bios... provided nothing crashes or shuts down in the middle, what are the chances that this vid card is gonna fry cause of this? (or not fry but not work)

Any bios that's not exactly the same as currently flashed to your card has to be considered edited and therefore different. However, so long as you follow the correct procedures and flash with any compatible bios, and providing that nothing crashes or shuts down in the middle, there should be no reason why your card would subsequently fail to work?
