Well, I hate to say this, but I'm having OCing issues with my Granite Bay board. If I try to up my FSB to 140 or above, the computer won't post.

First I'll post some specs:

PIV 2.8GHz
Corsair XMS 3200 (2 512s)
ATI AIW 9700
1 36GB Seagate 15.3 SCSI drive, 2 WD 80GB in RAID 0 array(using onboard RAID)
480w Antec TruPower PSU

I haven't installed the sound card yet (is M-Audio Revo), so the only PCI slot being used is for the SCSI controller, which I know isn't causing the prob anyway. Basically, when I try to overclock at all, the Ram gets really hot. But when I run at stock speeds, it's just fine. I have the two sticks of RAM in channel 1 and 2. I have also burned the system in for a period of 2 days. But it's definately something to do with the ram since nothing else is getting hot. Wierd thing is the RAM is just fine at stock speeds, doesn't heat up much at all. It's when I start to overclock even the slightest bit that it will get hot.

I don't even mess with the RAM timings or settings, just with the FSB and multiplier. I also have the PCI/AGP bus locked. Anyway, I'm at a loss at what this could be. Has anyone else with a Granite Bay board had this problem? If there are any details that anyone needs, just ask em and I'll post em as I'm sure I've forgot something. Thanks for any help.

Well, I've figured out a few things and think I may have fixed it. Will post results either tonight or tomorrow if it works.

GOOD NEWS!! After flashing my BIOS to the unreleased F3 revision and adjusting my AGP frequency to 68 (PCI is on 34), I have hit 3.2GHz with no probs. Tomorrow if all goes well I will post my results as I should have my final overclock by then.

Sup all, still messing with this board. I just haven't had time to see how high I can get it to go. Will post results soon though. Possibly tonight. I should be completely finished by Wednesday I hope.

OK budd_wm, I'm watching for your threads everyday. Build a Gigabyte system the end of Feb. if I can ever catch Newegg with any boards in stock. So keep your info comming......

Later........

Well, for me it's an issue of time. If I had two straight days off then I'd be able to get everything done. But because of school, work, and friends, I'm barely finding time to even look at the system. But little by little I've been getting there. The board hasn't given me many probs, it's just that I don't have much time to mess with it. Tonight I will try to get everything finalized though. We shall see. :D

budd_wm, if you get a few minutes extra sometime, could you post the specs your using with the new mobo? I'd like to compare yours with the ones we planned on using and see how close we are. Might give me some different options before we buy........

Thanks....

Yeah, sure thing. I haven't posted overclocking results yet cause I ran into a slight prob (not related to the mobo or anything). My SCSI card was freaking out on me and I had to reflash its BIOS. So everything is working, but I still haven't gotten my OC results in final form.

Anyway, my specs are as follows:

Antec TruPower 480w PSU
Gigabyte 8INXP Mobo
P4 2.8 @ 3.2 so far
1GB Corsair XMS 3200 (CAS 2-3-3-6)
ATI AIW 9700
M-Audio Revolution
2 WD SE 80GB HDs using onboard RAID (RAID 0)
36GB Seagate SCSI 15.3k Cheetah
Adaptec 29160N Controller card
Pioneer 16X slot load DVD drive
Lite-On 48x24x48 CR-RW drive
Koolance Chieftech case (watercool)

I think that about covers it. If I have time tonight, I might be able to get my OC results and post em. Sorry I haven't yet.

That's ok man, take your time. You were a big help with the list you put up. A lot was close to what we want to use, but you had a few interesting differences. The specs we want to use are listed in General Hardware. I posted a thread there.

One thing was the memory. We had down for 512gig of Corsair XMS 2700 and I see you used XMS 3200. That was the only difference that amounted to much. We're just going to go with a WD 40gig SE HDD to carry him over til faster SATA comes out. Toshiba DVD, the same CD-RW. Also a P4 2.8 CPU. A lot of what you find could be very helpful.......

Thanks....

Well, I've hit 3.4GHz, but I'm not sure how stable it is yet. XP runs fine. I will test it out with Prime95 and games....screenshots soon. :D

budd -

That memory can do 2-2-2-6 easily...

Im running that same memory at 2-2-2-4 right now stable..:D

What's your FSB at? I'll try it tonight. I'm very close to getting it all finalized, haven't had any probs yet, and it hasn't crashed on any tests......yet.

166 FSB..

I got upto 190 then went back down to stock..I dont want to fry my chip on an air cooled system..not to mention my BIOS was telling me I had 39°C and after a bios flash it went to 49°C..So Im not sure what temp I have in my system? :( Only downside of my motherboard..

I have an athlon xp 333FSB..

*sigh* Well, it crashed. And what's more, the computer won't even post now. I reset the CMOS settings, etc, still won't post. I dunno what has caused it yet, but I've already ruled out the mobo, the CPU, and the ram. It's not a heat issue either as temps stayed below 45 degrees. I don't think I fried the CPU cause I only had it at 1.65 volts. The only strange thing I can see is that the 3.3v line on my PSU is reading very low, around 2.8. I dunno what caused this though as everything was running fine for almost 12 hours straight with it clocked at 3.4. It was running a loop of 3DMark when it locked up. Video card didn't get hot. Oh well, now to figure this out and see what I can do....any suggestions/help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Heh, this is funny. Problem was caused by a loose wire from the PSU. Fixed it. Now it's running like a champ. Will post specifics soon, but I wanna make sure everything is good to go first.

Well, I'm able to get the FSB up to 166, but it will lock down after about 2 hours of testing. Seems to run best at around 160 (about 3.35GHz). I'm not sure what the limiter is yet, most likey the CPU though. If that's the case then I'll up my memory timings to further improve performance. Looks like I'm about done though. I'll post some pics of benches soon, might not be until Monday though as I'll have to work...

Well system is stable now. I don't want to give anything away yet though. Here's (http://x25.net/~kkendall/wespc.zip) some zipped pics of the system. I'll be 100% sure of results next weekend (yeah I know, it's a long wait, but school, what can I say).

Wow, I forgot about this thread. Well, to follow up, I was able to get a stable overclock at 3.4GHz. No errors on Prime. If I go over that I will begin getting errors on Prime, though it "seems" stable. Games run like a champ, this AIW is freaking awesome. Temps with this watercooled system stay at 35 Celcius on high load. 30 or below on idle. This system is a champ. :D

nice o'c there budd_vm, gotta any new pics of the h2o cooling setup?

I don't have a digital camera. I'll have to find a friend who has one. I forgot to add that the case has changed from its previous pics. I actually had to add a 92mm intake side fan in the window because the PCI devices, esp the AIW, were getting hot, and I am not watercooling anything but the CPU, mobo, and SCSI drive. The fan looks sweet though, a lighted red one, plus a lighted red exhaust rear fan and added a slot cooler below the video card. I think I need to add HD coolers to my IDEs as they get pretty hot, and I have no intake air going to the front of the case. It's still kind of an ongoing project, but it's sweet nonetheless. :D
