The picture get clear and clearer.

It seem Vista will be available to business and OEMs in November but the Vista retail will be delay until Q1 2007. One thing I really dont understand, why Vista retail delay until Q1 2007 while business and OEMs get it first on sales before Xmas 2006?

Anyway I dont care about retail, OEM version is good enough, I sold my old PC with XP SP2 OEM bundled. Look like I will be able to buy Vista Ultimate Edition OEM in November. :)

If they do not change their plans for DRM, I will not be installing Vista anytime soon. I am sure that "cleaned" versions will be availble at some point by virtue of work put forth by community members which I will be able to install with my action pack key.

Rewrite 60% of Vista OS code turned out to be completed false accorded to Microsoft bloggers Microsoft Watch (http://www.microsoft-watch.com/article2/0,1995,1942845,00.asp) and Scobleizer (http://scobleizer.wordpress.com/2006/03/24/rewrite-of-windows-vista-underway-hogwash/).

Back when I had an MSDN professional subscription, we tended to get an RTM (release to manufacturer) build, a few weeks (more like 2-3 though) the retail ship date. RTM and the sold version, were the same build number though...

This practice isn't uncommon, though 2 months is definitely more time between there releases when what I remember having seen for either Windows 2000 or Windows XP...

Windows XP went RTM on 18 August 2001, I had a copy of XP RTM on 22 August and had lots of fun with it ahead of retail launch on 25 October, that 2 months and 1 week from RTM to retail.

Vista original RTM date is around middle of August 2006, now the date was pushed back by a few weeks to ensure Vista met the quality OEMs want. I think the new RTM date is in beginning of September, this will give 2 months until November 2006 launch for business and OEMs customers and January 2007 for retail launch. I probably will get my hand on Vista RTM 4 months ahead of retail launch. :)
