I didn't say "help"
I said "support"

It's obvious they don't need my help :) Support simply means that otherwise, I could very well say the NV35 is crap and the R400 is revolutionary. Nothing more, nothing less.

Proof?? I'm hoping the nv35 will not be another nv30 and instead will target to beat the r400 instead of the r300, which the beta, promo (whatever the hell it was that was reveiwed) nv30 couldn't do by much if any.

I'd be very surprised if Nvidia changed the bus. It just does not make sense.

The NV30 isn't *that* far behind the R9700 as it stands right now. Yes, the R350 will widen the gap.

But, the NV35 is merely intended to be a speed bumped version of the NV3x core, not an entirely new core that requires a new PCB. If they waste even more R&D on this card, instead of the NV40, it an unwise move, IMO. They spent so much on R&D on the NV30 because they wanted to keep this core around a long time.

That means it's highly adaptable to the future, ie greater clockspeeds without much core work. The NV3x is alot like the P4. People laughed when it debuted....but Intel got the last laugh...

The key to making the NV35 competitve is *not* a wider bus...it's incorporating low-k dialetrics into the design. Lower power consuption, less heat, higher clockspeeds, major improvement.

The NV3x core was designed around a *fast* core. If you try and add a 256 bit DDRbus on a PCB that already requires 12 layers, you're going to have to make some compromises in clockspeed. Well, the NV35 can't afford to do that, unless you want to redesign the entire coreand PCB, and that simply is *not* going to happen.

Sure, the NV30 is dissapointing....right now. ATI has won this round, hands down, and they may win the next one as well. The R400 vs. the NV40 will be pretty impressive, however.

I largely disagree. I think NV35 absolutely has to have, and will have, a 256-bit bus. It will be a new core, although not a whole new architecture.

Remember, NV35 is a REFRESH, not GFFX Ultra Plus - NV35 is not merely going to be a clock speed & memory speed bump over NV30. I think the clockspeed will increase only slightly. the main change will be to the amount of FP math units in the vertex shader, the adding of V.S. 3.0+ and P.S. 3.0+and other improvments. look how much better the NV25 was compared to NV20. we had twice the vertex processing power, a new FSAA functional unit, tweaked all the componets, plus a 50% increase in clock speed. I think NV35 will be a similar difference over NV30.

perhaps only 25% increase in clockspeed though, since they're already pushing the .13 process with the 500 Mhz GFFX.

I think you can pretty much hold Hellbinder's words as truth when he says what the NV35 will mostly likely be. And it DEFINITELY won't have support for those shaders. Its not a new chip, its a revision. The best they can get out of it is 256 bit bus and some other enhancements, higher clock etc. No way in hell is it going to compete with the R400. I hope it does well, which it will ( most likely, at least 25-30% faster than the R350 in most benchmarks) however, its not going to be able to even compete with the R400. Expect R400 to more than double the R300s speeds.

I don't know man.....nvidia might be working extra hard now. If they want to win us back, they better try very hard!!
