Sorry I haven't had time to check this thread.

My problem is this: I have no idea what the **** I am doing!
Im new to this whole vent setup thing ive used the program but never tried to run a server, which is my aim right now. I have a laptop set up on my network that I want to run the server on. I downloaded all the files and installed them and now idk what the hell to do. Thanks bro

Ventrilo used to suck as TS and RW did. Then as you said, they upgraded the codec and BAMG it is better than using a phone to talk. It is simply the best chat proggie out there.


Copy the file locations and paste them into I.E.

WRT setting up a server it is faily easy. Start with their documentation. :D
C:\Program Files\VentSrv\ventrilo_srv.htm

Step one install the damn thing. ;) I've found that works great.

Step two open the ini file. Everything you need is in that file. For now just set up the server name and admin password.

Step three, fire up the server and get a buddy to connect to the server. The server IP will be your IP. Give them that IP and they should be able to connect with no problems.

The above will just get you going to you can chat. From there read more on their documentation to use the other features available.

i jsut wish they would let more then 8 people use it at a time...


if you have a router you will need to open up the incomming ports (port udp 3784)to the vent server. also if you want people to connect to the server without having to find and use the ip address of the server then use dynamic domain names use a service like no-ip.com or another dynamic dns service( they are usually free)... like udawg said there really isnt much to it just read the docs....if you have any other questoin just post here we will help you....
