I currently have one GF6600.
I am considering adding another card but the my motherboard specs are:
- 2 x PCI Express x16 slot
*SLI mode : x8 , x8

1. Is SLI in PCI Express x8 better that non-SLI in PCI Express x16?

2. The other question has to do with what applications I would see an improvement with.
Would it affect my video rendering with Adobe Premiere or my 3D rendering with Autodesk 3D Max?

SLi is always better then a single card solution (of the same type). You would see an improvement in any game that is GPU limited or games that you pump higher resolutions and more AA/AF.

I know my Roommate went SLi with his 6600GT for DDO and saw a huge improvement, as did I when I upgraded.

They have boards that have 2 X16 lanes.

I own a crappy Asus A8N-SLI, is it worth running SLI on x8?

yes it is, might as well just keep the board you got.

Your board is not crappy :)

There are folk out there who are still happily using Socket A...
