I ordered 256 megs of ram and WinXP from newegg.com (should arrive any day) and I'm having trouble deciding on what video card to upgrade to.

Radeon 9000 Pro series
or
GeForce4 Ti4200 series

I heard they're pretty much equal in performance, which do think is the better buy with my system. Use the specs in my sig to see what I'm upgrading from. I'm hesitant in buying anything more powerful because I'm kinda running a little low on $$$ after buying WinXP and 256 megs of RDRAM. So it has to be between these two.

Thanks for all your help. :D

And ATi doesn't? lol...*looks at GeforceFX*.

I'd get the 4200 not because of drivers, but because it's significantly faster than the 9000 and you can find it for less money most likely. I don't think it *looks* quite as good though...but the advantage you get over the 9000 is you can play more demanding games overall. I've seen 8500s going for the same price range, however, and that would be a better purchase than either card.

Radeon 9500 is almost the same price as a ti4200 and almost as fast. As already stated... graphics are better on the 9500, and 2-d "tends" to be better on the 9500 as well. As far as drivers... Well, nVidia does NOT officially support HDTV resolutions in their drivers, and switching drivers with one of these tv's can be treacherous. I've had no problems with my 9500 so far, and there is 9500 pro, 9700, and 9700 pro to choose from as well.

thanks alot for your input guys!!

I guess a 4200 is it. I noticed on the Futuremark website on the 3D accelerator comparison chart that the 4200 scores almost 1000 points higher on 3DMark. I'm definatley getting that.

thanks again!!
