View Full Version : verizon fios, faster teirs and lower pricing!!
ok take this with a grain of salt..this is what im hearing..
starting in or around june/july time frame verizon is going to start offering new faster tiers.
30/5 is $179.95 - $199.95 ,in someplaces its 59.99 if your in certain areas right now but in most areas its going down to $50-59.99
15/5 is $44.95 - $49.95 but going down to something like $30ish
5/2 is now $34.95 - $39.95 and will be something like 20-25 bucks
now heres the kicker...new tiers...(nana2)
50/5 for 100-199$ this one makes me giddy.
40/5 for 65-100$
there are other tiers going to be introduced but i have to talk to my guy to find out what they are...
also right now verizon is using a standard called b-pon. at the end of this year they are upgrading to the new standard of g-pon(remember this will take time to get to everyone) ive heard from other sources that the trials are going to start at the end of 2006ish... 100mbps symetrical internet and beyond will be possible and common place within the verizon fios network in a few years...this is the sort of stuff that makes us network gurus drool....(nana2)
50 down??!! OMG thats nuts! Shame they couldnt get that up speed to 10Mb though :D

they could but it has todo with the way bpons bandwidth is allocated. from what i hear they dont want to over subscribe the nodes..
the nodes are broken down to 32 homes per hub depending on distance from the node.if they need more distance they will break it down to 16. so in the cross connect going from the hub to the central office it offers 622 mbps down and 155 mbps up. so then you just divide it by 32 and you get the break down.(something like 20mbps down and 5 mbps up) but i guess the reason they will overprovision the down but not the up is to allow the tcp actknowledments to get out of the network to sustane some throughput... but like i said up there, gpon will bring huge improvements to the bandwidth situation...(nana2)
wow my cable is 5000/512 for 39.99/month

I wonder if their TOS/AUP lets you run a "server", I'd certainly like to slap a Linux box with Apache/PHP/qmail on a FIOS network.
Of course, I live in an area where they pump the sunshine in so I'm happy with 3Mbit/384K DSL for $34.95/mo. I know 6Mbit is on the way.

Im crawling along at 3\320 with Atlantic Broadband cable. Its a great service though. Id like a better upload speed, but the download is fine. I rarely get my max speed from any servers so it doesnt matter much.
I have 256/256. Yah that's with a k not an m:cry:
I wish I could get verizon over here.

there tos doesnt let you but i can tell you that they dont activaly search for servers. i have a web/ftp/voice/game/mail servers and a beyond tv server and ive never gotten tossed yet. verizon is very liberal about there server policy.they do block incoming ports 80 and 25...but there are ways around that...
