View Full Version : Why did NVIDIA release GeForce FX reviews?

i dont understand why nvidia released reviews this early if they knew their card was bad... i think these drivers are optimized. they probably figured they would have a hard time squeezing out any more performance.. and gave up. they released cards to reviewers. the first reviews make or break a good card... obviously nvidia didnt think any more performance would be gained...
im curious as to how well this card will sell...

If they hadn't released the reviews, we'd all have a confirmation that serious issues existed with the card.

the cards will be out soon. what choice do they have but to release reviews?

i mean honestly, when reviews were supposed to show up in December and we heard nothing, alarms should have been going off. then when the card showed up for preordering, but still no reviews, that was yet another bad sign.

silence = bad.

except maybe in the case of cooling

Not to release the card or the reviews until everything was optimized. I would have glady waited another month or so, if I new they where working diligently. I cant even run the card because of it psu requirements but damn I still would have risked blowing up my rigs if it blew out the 9700PRO.

They simply can't wait longer. NV35 must be on time. They did what they could. Lack of time killed it.

Just another funny visualization for me. Can't you just picture one of the "brighter" guys in their PR department suggesting that they just not let ANY reviews out for the card?

"But Chief! We're not expecting the Ultra model to sell too well anyways since we got the performance results back in...why should we just give them to the hardware sites? You know they're going to just rip them to shreds anyways, we could DOUBLE our potential sales projection if we just don't release any to the review site before these puppies hit the shelfs!"

"Think of it Chief, just think of it! Not only will all the hardware sites have to actually buy them, but there might actually be a real gamer or two we can sell some to before they can get any reviews up & done! We're talking at LEAST a six hour window here Chief!!!"

(I'm sorry, I really should stop I know but it's just TOO DAMNED EASY! :D )

yeah, and then R350 would be out, and it would dominate the gfFX. so they would try to optimize some more. then R400 would come out.

you don't get revenue without a product. it's what screwed 3dfx.

hhehe the gfx is disappoinment but hey it can happen to anyone ATI also had some really crappy products in the past, i guess this time its Nvidias turn. I heard some people that nvidia is dead now and some other crap which is only BS!.
They also have other products that are selling real well also they have most of the market share at the mainstream level its not like nvidia is at bankrupt...

Nope, I agree with you on that. This isn't a death blow for nVidia by any means, but it's gotta be at least a good swift kick in the nuts for them!

The main reason their mainstream products sell so well is because of nVidia's reputation as THE high-end perfomance gaming leader, and it just ain't so anymore. The FX might be a bit faster card than the 9700Pro, but from what I saw it's image quality with AA & AF were lacking in comparison to ATI's solution and I didn't like the performance impact of eye-candy with AA & AF on it either.

I could see the argument that they've got the fastest card on the block currently...but you'd be lacking a whole lot of ammo trying to debate that with anyone who's at all knowledgable about ATI's current offerings.

The 9700 was the start of the shift, this is just another tip of the table. The way I'm seeing it is that in the near future we're going to start seeing a bit more parity 'tween the two companies in terms of quality and costs...which I count as a GOOD THING(tm).

I just hope that nVidia wakes up, smells the coffee and comes out of their fortress-o-solitude to deal with the less-than-favorable reaction with some follow up info on either drivers or soon to be performance increases.

(Hey, I didn't even MENTION the nDustbunny problem with the card in this post! :) )

there are serious issues with this card, noise , heat, and performance. the fx is to slow, to noisy, and way to hot, to go in my case. 140 degrees on the bottom of the card.not in my case. soory nvidia, not a chance.

this early? hmm.. I think this is why the reviews were so late. There would have been much worse performance back in december. I think we now know the hold up.
