nearest i can tell from the reading i've been doing, is the 7600GT sits right in the middle. between the 6800GT/Ultra, and the 7800GT. atleast bench wise it does !

Thats not a bad jump. ;) I experienced something similar when I switched from an oced ti4200 to a 6800nu. I´ve had like 1700 points in 3dmark03 and my best with the 6800 was 11170. :rofl

My 6800GT @ 400/1.19 does just under 6k on 3DMark05. In Quake4 I'm playing at 1280x1024 with 2xQ AA/16xAF, vsync enabled, and everything maxed (except for that "Ultra" setting- no way my system could handle that) and I'm getting silky smooth framerates. I'll run it tonight with FRAPs to see what they are- I'm guessing 60-ish or higher. This is on a K8V SE Dlx with a 3700 (s754) and a gig of cheap ram. Not bad though, plays the lost coast level extremely well also. I can have everything maxed @ 1024x768 and it's still very playable (probably 30 -45 fps, will have to check with FRAPS again also).
If you can, I say get the 7600, or even better, the 78 or 7900GT. The later two would be the better choice.

id take the 7600gt... performs faster than the 6800gs in games which is similar to the 6800gt in performance.... theres no way we can tell how any card will run crysis or ut2007... iirc they said for ut2007 that theyre aiming to get it runing at 1024 with high details on a midrange system when the game comes out...
with my old 7800gtx i was getting as low as 20fps (after tweaks) outdoors.... thres no way a 6600gt will run it fine unless its on low settings with low draw distanceHeh. Turn off the grass and i'm sure you'd get a big boost..:o

I still think the 7800GTX is still a highend piece of hardware. The 7900 isn't that old yet to get mainstream attention.
I have 2 7800GTX's and play anything thats out their at max beuty.

So how well does the 7600GT run? Do you have Oblivion, CoD2, FEAR, or BF2 to compare what settings you run?
I'm on an overclocked 6800GT and overclocked Barton-M.
I currently run CoD2 at 1024x768, 4xAF or 8xAF (whatever in-game AF is set to), and all high settings except for one or two at "normal" like dynamic light and shadow smoke or something.

Hello,
Oblivion is running @ 1280x960, max settings + the usual .ini tweaks & 2xAA + Bloom (25-50fps outside)
FEAR is @ 1152x864 2xAA, max settings, no soft shadows (40/63/138) 0%/2%/98%
Dont have CoD2 sorry and BF2 was uninstalled a while ago.
X3 benchmark @ 1280x1024 4xAA & 16xAF was 39fps.

Firingsquad has an article on Oblivion performance with mainstream cards.
The 7600GT beats the 6800GT by 30-50%.

This quote from the firingsquad article sums it all up really
NVIDIA’s GeForce 7600 GT runs circles around the GeForce 6800 GT
Does anyone else think the 6800 Ultra is drastically overpriced? I found one for AU$799! that like 7900GTX territory! Yeah thanx a lot, I think the 7600GT is good enough for me...unless the X1800GTO can trump it. But I heard its just a half dead X1800XL lol. Haven't seen it in action.

the X1800GTO beats the 7600GT in two games - FEAR & Oblivion. everything else seems to go to the 7600GT.
Both FEAR & Oblivion run slightly faster on ATI hardware - this is true at any pricepoint so dont hold it against the 7600GT alone, remember the X1800GTO only wins in two games and costs more, uses more power and makes more noise.

If my 9600pro plays oblivion fine on med/low settings, i'm sure a 6600GT will do high settings. :p
I'm probably going to pass the 6800GT down to my brother soon, so to me it is dead. ;)Meh. I wouldn't touch Oblivion on any less than high settings, if not the highest settings. Any less would be a horrific disgrace to the title, in my opinion.

Id personally buy the newer tech if it performs better. But to be honest from a useage stand point... the 6800GT and Ultra are hardly slouches. I still play everything on full settings at 1280x1024 with 4xAA and 8 or 16x AF without a problem at all (no stuttering ever sence I got 2gigs of ram). Sure it will slow down at 1600x1200 ... but my monitor does not go that high anyway and I really have no desire at the moment to buy one that is that big and does.

I play Oblivion with the highest settings at 1280x720+4AF. The performance is good considering the visuals. Yes the card is aging but it should still hold me above water until the G80 hits the market.

yeh, the 6 series appears to be dead, in the sense that it's no longer being produced, but as far as the performance of the cards, mine's still alive and kicking, while it may not be the fastest, it's still capable of handling any game with relative ease, i've been able to play every game i have at 1440x900 (monitor's native res), granted i've cut down alot on AA and AF, like in FEAR, it doesn't have AA or AF enabled

OK to finally put this matter to bed could someone with a 6800GT or ultra pls post there absolute best benchmark scores @ ANY resolution or AA settings in ANY game or test suite so that I can show you how wrong the assumption is that a 7600GT cant beat a 6800Ulta.
im even willing to run my card at stock verus the NV40 card @ its best overclock.
any volunteers???

Wow, is that all? My good old (very old) Ti4600 was getting over 12000 with max OC. I dont think I want to pay so much for something that only doubles a three year old card's performance :p . Any 7600GT benches?

you guys are stupid, it's called GOOGLE, use it, every single review, especially the ones even on this own site, of the 7600 GT prove that it outperforms a 6800 GT, can you guys not read? seriously, look it up, in general it will perform better, that's not to say a 6800 GT won't do good either, is it that hard to understand? be assertive, solve your own issues, instead of having us tell you what's better, look it up
