A buddy of mines brother is going to a Art school and is looking for a good laptop for recording music.

I was at first thinking just a Mac but are there any good Windows XP choices?

Well he will probably need good sound card if this can be considered good for ART school Creative PCMCIA (http://www.soundblaster.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=205&product=10769)addon to any PC laptop.
There is also some alternatives Indigo (http://www.echoaudio.com/Products/CardBus/IndigoDJ/index.php)

There're professional grade laptop soundcards, which should be better than anything Creative have.

[EDIT] I can name a few tomorrow.

M-Audio makes some USB professional sound cards that are probably better than creative labs but still aren't too ridiculous when it comes to price. They even have one where you have four separate mono input channels (good for recording a small band)...versus the two mono inputs or 1 stereo input that a normal sound card would have. There are probably lots of other brands that others might be able to suggest though.
