Summer is approaching. I never had any problem with my second machine (The first was prone to lock-ups until it died =) ) but I don't wan't to get any risk.

I've seen quite a few custom cooling solutions and I was wondering if anyone had personal experiences with them. Also, I'd like to know if anyone know a shop in the EU which sells and ships them anywhere in the old continent. ;)

I havn't seen any great cooling solutions. Some folks like the intercooler, some don't, so I'm not sure about that one. If your brave you might hop over to xbox-scene. I know people over there have posted about cooling mods (liquid and other). Of course, you void your warrenty if you do it yourself.

Sorry, not much help.

I have the pelican fan stand and although it cools the 360 silently and somewhat effectively, it is a complete pain to turn it on everytime. It doesnt turn on/off automatically, and the switch is extremely small and all the way in the back of the stand, so it's just a pain to turn it on everytime.

The new one, by nyko or whatever, seems a lot better.

Personally, I think it is horrible that you would have to worry about "cooling" your 360. (No I'm not a PS3/Nintendo Fanboy). I just don't think you should have to "cool" an off the shelf console system, even in relatively high temperatures. Seems like a bad design to me.

If you leave enough space around the console (don't stick it into some tight AV rack) and have a reasonable amount of air conditioning or air flow throughout the area where the console will be used you should have absolutely no problems with your 360. I'll admit that the initial batch of 360s was suspect but the latest models seem to be running solid.

I am actually not worrying about it right now... I live in Texas and we are already seeing 100+ degree weather here... which sucks, but I figured if it craps out, I want it to crap out ASAP while the warranty is still there. But of course it will crap out on me as soon as the warranty is up :\.

The intercooler is a great solution for better cooling on the 360 but it is VERY loud. Auto shutoff, manual shutoff, etc.

Otherwise looking into modification or watercooling as someone posted earlier :)

Problem with watercooling a 360 is that unless you get a passive kit, like the people have been doing, a regular rad and fan would just look ugly. I dunno if Id get watercooling for a 360 since it has such a nice and small design.... and passive cooling wont do much of a diference.

This is a really good product, after a few hours of playing my 360 was blowing warm air, not hot.

I have a launch day 360, I have not had any problems with it at all, the intercooler for 20.00 is a small price to pay for a product that works so well.
Just a little extra insurance if ya know what I mean. :D

EDIT: oops forgot to link http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802205

It has 3 high speed fans so it is louder, not WAY louder, but you can hear it for sure, as soon as you start gaming you don't notice it one bit.

Of course the trade off is much much better cooling, and it almost looks like part of the 360.

I guess I should say this also, I have had a few long hour sessions with oblivion, no matter how long I play the 360 with the intercooler blows at most, warm air. Now I must admit that my system is in the basement and it is a cool area, that being said before the intercooler even in the cool basement the 360 was blowing hot air.
So depending on the temp of your gaming room, you could get same, better or worse results.

Thanks for the replies.

I don't think that the Xbox 360 is badly engineered. Simply, it's the limits of current technology coupled with the fact that a console is still considered some piece of consumer electronics closer to a televisor or some hi-fi than a computer, hence the need to keep the case as small as possible.

The Nykio intercooler look interesting... I hope I can find it available at some EU online store

Your better off riding the hot weather and let it blow up, if it's going to.
Then get a replacement under warranty, and chance of a newer revision.
