View Full Version : Ridge Racer 7 confirmed for PS3!

While the x360 got the sixth game of the series as an exclusive it seems that the seventh will be exclusive to the PS3.

The three developers didn't get too specific about what we can expect from RR7. Teramoto stated that thanks to the PS3's power, that even with the improved graphics the system still has juice to spare (which will be used for effects to help deliver a better feeling of speed). Teramoto let slip that the game will use Nitrous, a system that was recently featured in the PSP and Xbox 360 games. Okubo addressed the game's sound component briefly by revealing that the game will support 5.1 audio.

Kobayashi, while not directly confirming a release at the PS3's launch in November, stated that the development staff's goal is to, as quickly as possible, convey to players the concept behind the PS3 hardware. Teramoto personally believes this concept to be "machine power," exemplified by the PS3's ability to deliver movie-quality visuals and sound.

The last bold gets me wondering how long Namco actually had the devkits. Maybe they have had them for alot longer then we were led to believe if they know how to take advantage of the PS3.

I know alot of people are going to go off and say this is all PR BS but remember one thing, this is not coming from Sony but rather the three main guys behind the Ridge Racer series (A Namco Game)...

Im a fan of the series and love the X360 version, can't wait till E3 to see what they have to show.

I have a feeling that RR7 will be going towards more of the old drifting gameplay controls and not the PSP/360 style on rails. In the scans of RR7 theres a shot that says "Orginal Drift Handling" which could be taken as that, but I guess we will have to wait and see.

E3! :D
All we need now are wipeout and twisted metal ps3 announcements. :)

Now I shall wait for the usual poeple to shout fake because its PS3 Exclusive and not X360... You know PGR3 is the only racing game allowed to look good...

Oh and this comes from Namco, not Sony...

I wont be surprised if the PS3 version looks alot better and shows more effort.

Me neither.

The development staff is for the most part the same for both games, Teramoto noted. "When actually getting our hands on the PS3 hardware," he explained, "as we gained a deeper understanding of what things we could realize, it was clear that we could realize something different from 6." It was with this realization that the team decided to make a new entry in the series.

Teramoto and crew believe that the Cell and RSX chips give them the chance to achieve a "Feeling of Ridge Racer" better than they were able to in Ridge Racer 6. This includes the feeling of speed and a refreshing, good play feel that you instantly get when starting play.

The PS3's power could be used for realistic physics, but that wouldn't very Ridge Racer, explained Teramoto. "The PS3's power will be used for various effects, and things that take place both on and around the course. If we use the Cell's computational power for these areas, we believe we'll be able to make a Ridge Racer like never before."

It's unclear what we'll be seeing of the game at E3. Namco Bandai Games will be showing a trailer titled Ridge Racer Vision 2010, a name that's meant to mean that the trailer will show elements from the future of Ridge Racer, including those elements that will be included in Ridge Racer 7. The trailer is meant to show what can be achieved in, perhaps, four years, when Teramoto feels the PS3 will have possibly become ubiquitous throughout the world and both gamers and developers will be pushing the system's capabilities.

Those screenshots look totally believable. They're by no means miles ahead of PGR3 but they are clearly better. The lighting and road textures in particular look nice. The walls in the tunnel look a little flat.
