View Full Version : Benchmark scores unreasonably slow, help!
I was wondering what might be causing my extremely slow speeds on 3dmark 2001
http://service.futuremark.com/servlet/Index?pageid=/orb/projectdetails&projectType=6&projectId=5780272
i am getting 3350 on a nice setup
Athlon XP 1800+
Abit 761-686B(KG7)
256 MB 2100 RAM
NVidia Geforce 4 mx 440
4x AGP with newest AGP drivers
Can anyone sudgest anything that would make it up to at least the 6000 range, which by comparison with other machines is about normal?
thank you

make sure it is running default settings, and that AA and Aniso are disabled in the NV control panel. Thats about it, can't expect much out of it ;)
Is this normal then? when i got this machine, i expected quite a bit of perfomance out of it. for the most part, all the settings are set to speed, and not quality. it runs ok for some of the lower end games, but for newer games, settings have to be set way low.
so there is nothing i can do except live with it when other computers with very similar setups are doing twice the speed?
thanks

what drivers are you using?
EDIT: My P3 700 w/Ti 4200 got better scores than that. Make sure you are using the latest drivers on anything. What settings did you run that test at and what settings do you run games on?
42.70
which actaully boosted my speed over the default ones posted on nvidia's site.

are you sure you aren't using AA or Aniso at all? does GF4MX even have Aniso?
yes, i am sure about AA. i double checked after you mentioned it earlier.
i dont think it supports aniso.
i uploaded a picture of the AA settings
sorry, ignore the picture, i accidentally clicked it and it moved to application when i took the screenshot.

your video card is not exactly going to set the world on fire... it is for all intents and purposes a gf2 on steroids...
what this means is that you will not be able to get a score on nature which is a dx8 game/test in 3dmark...
the weighting of the score is basically biased towards a GOOD nature score... which is why nvidia drivers lately have been optimized for this test...
in effect your dx7 card will not be able to run this game hence your score will suffer...
in effect you are probably not going to get the score you want to get...
http://www.digit-life.com/articles/gf4mx/
you will see in the middle of the page as you scroll down to the 3dmark2001 scores that the 2100mhz p4 produced a score of 4107 marks... that is in the neighbord hood of what you can get...
:)
actually, for my card and resolution i tested it at, it shows a 6351 as the score... which i would expect.... i tested it at 800x600, not 1280x1024... and i got right around 3350... which makes me suspect there is something else going on... some setting i have not found yet
k... did not read that part...
please post a compare link so I can check out the frames et al :)

Your 3dmark score seems low to me also, my rig outperforms yours with a Ti 4600:eek:

Well, you have a 1900+, still its oc'd, so is mines, but the 9700 Pro should make up for it. I guess it isn't that low, but you can get more out of it man:D
does it really outperform it ?
hmm... well I oc'd the rig a tad... 10mhz fsb :) and thats it...
my video card is running stock other than a slight oc based on the increased fsb...
I am not in the habit of oc'ing for the sake of getting a bangup score and then going back to stock settings or whatever :)
that score reflects my system on a day to day basis when I choose to bump up the fsb...
my stock score for my card/rig is around 12.2k 3dmarks...
post your STOCK scores and then we'll have a chat :)
:) k just checked your compare... yah yer running a little faster than I am aren't you :)
disregard the above :)

here is my stock speed ;)
13,023 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=5211865)
By stock I mean, nothing overclocked ;) I use the 2.53 Ghz oc'd setup from time to time :D

here is mine stock with older drivers... I will bench it sometime when I format my computer later in feb with teh 3.0's :)

I just cna't believe that an fsb oc of 7 mhz netted such a tiny increase in 3dmarks for your card btw... a 10mhz increase for me nets around 1000 points... and I run my rig @ 2100+ speeds on a regular basis..
still am trying to figure out why my nature score is so high compared to many other systems... incl ones with a 9700pro...

thats cool, I'll see if I can get around to benching with these new drivers, I haven't gotten around to doing it in a while;)
I don't know why the score didn't go up higher, I was working on getting it to 14k, but MSI 648 MAX isn't a great overclocker by any means

I hear you :)
am wiating on my summer upgrade to a barton/nforce2 style platform... should be fine since my memory should synch perfectly with a 166mhz fsb :)

This is at defaults for everything with all programs shut off, with memory scrubbed clean of leaks with mem-turbo, which was closed durring the test.
Score: 2157

Are you sure you do not have FSAA or aniso enabled? Your fillrate scores as well as all the other theoretical tests are well below what a GF4 440MX should be (around 1.5 to 5 times lower depending on the test).
Are you sure that the clock speeds of the card are set to default and not lowered?
Are you sure the card is not defective?
Yes to all of those, but of course, not if the card is defective.
my other video cards were acting slow, but i had nothing to prove it against... so i guess its somehting else...
