Hi, guys!
I experience a strange problem and need an unusual solution for it.
Here's an integrated ATI x200 for notebook. It's on IBM ThinkPad R51e. WHENEVER the IBM is restarted, the color depth of the display goes to 16-bit. *IT DOES NOT* show in the Display Control Panel, it's just simply VISIBLE (bad looking graphics, color depth = 65000 colors instead of 16 million).
If I change the Power Scheme and in the FAN SECTION set the fan speed from "Maximize performance" to "Balance all parameters" and then BACK TO MAXIMIZE performance, then the color depth goes back to 32 bit - as it should be.
...BUT only until next restart :(
Windows XP Home Edition, fully updated via Windows Update. Latest ATI drivers, all updated. Powerplay (checked this one too) - all set to MAX PERFORMANCE.
STILL, after restart, the display is again in 16 bit mode, and nothing helps, UNTIL again power scheme is changed, the fan speeds namely. I guess, something BUGGY in the driver or the power manager tries EVEY TIME to lower the bit depth of the screen to save possible power from the battery, but I DO NOT NEED THIS! I want 32 bit! Besides, COLOR DEPTH goes into 16 bit EVEN WHEN ON POWER - actually, all the time the laptp is on power, so WHY GO INTO 16 bit???
I tried everyhing...
WHAT I NEED, I guess, is the following:
Find in the ATI drivers (.INF files?) or in the Windows registry the settings related to the graphics adapter, and REMOVE THE ONES which have 16-bit color depth in them.
For example, for nVidia I can now locate these settings and add or remove modes.
Let's say, the ATI x200/ the LCD display have now the following "registered" possible settings:
800x600x16@60Hz
800x600x32@60Hz
1024x768x16@60Hz
1024@768@32@60Hz
WHAT I NEED, is to locate WHERE are the settings located and remove the following ones:
800x600x16@60Hz
1024x768x16@60Hz
... or just 1024x768x16@60Hz because I need only 1024x768.
Problem is, I GOOGLED the whole Internet, and all I have found is:
1) How to edit settings for nVidia based cards and
2) How to edit refresh rate settings for ATI and nVidia.
But what I need, is COLOR DEPTH!
16 bit modes simply must be REMOVED, so the driver will think, 16 bit mode is unsupported and thus will always keep the screen in 32 bit color depth mode.
ANYONE, ANY IDEAS???
Please, help! :(
It's really urgent...
I tried ATI Tool, Power Strip, they do not help, they only work with refresh rates, they do not help REMOVING 16 bit depth...
I tried to search the registry, but nothing has shown up...
HELLLLP!!!!!! Please...
