My New GWard 7800 GS+ AGP has duel link. "2 x DVI-I (dual link) - 29 pin combined DVI"
I am sorry to burst your bubble, but Your Gainward card actually has two single-link TMDS Digital DVI Ports with each DVI port having a Maximum Resolution of 1600 x 1200 (DIGITAL) and with a VGA to DVI Adapter, each port would have a Maximum Resolution of 2048 x 1536(ANALOG). Yes Your card has TWO DVI- Ports but again they are Single-Link TMDS Ports.
Where as PCIe 7800 GT and GTX has on each card a Single-Link TMDS Port (1600x1200) and a Dual-Link TMDS Port (2560 x 1600)
The 7900 Series PCIe Cards each have TWO Dual-Link TMDS Digital Ports with each Port having 2560 x 1600 Resolution to be able to fully support TWO the Dell 30" or TWO Apple 30" Displays at thier native resolutions of 2560 x 1600.
Also, in case You did not know this, the 7800GS Card actually has G71, Geforce 7800 GT PCIe native GPU core bridged down to AGP. It has G70 core with full 20 pipelines and the BR2 chip which is used to bridge the PCIe GPU down to AGP interface.
So, where as the first NV45 GPU's (6800 GT and Ultra PCI-Express) were actually NV40 AGP native(6800GT & Ultra AGP) GPU's that had an HSI Bridge Chip to increase its interface from AGP to PCI-Express, it is now the AGP Cards that have to use the PCIe Native G70 GPU with the BR2 Bridge Chip to downgrade the PCIE interface to AGP. ;)
As I said, If You want to play your games at Higher Digital Resolutions(High Resolution Gaming) than You will have to eventually switch over to the PCI-Express architecture. :D
hmmz... well if there is a 7900 agp and at a reasonable price I will go for it
otherwise its still pcx as planned for next upgrade

You know, you keep downing AGP as if it were the worst thing ever invented. You can't even list a single game that will fully utilize all the bandwidth AGP offers, yet you rant and rave about how supperior PCI-e is?
And you also keep on mentioning how the 7900 series can support two monitors at 2560x1536. If these people are still on AGP do you think they can really afford two of those monitors? Chances are "NO". You're preaching to the wrong crowd. Secondly, even the 7900GTX in SLi with an UBER INSANE OC can still be brought to its knees. FEAR and Oblivion are the first two titles that come to mind.
Currently, for the gamer on a BUDGET, PCI-e doesn't have all that many advantages over AGP. Now, if you got a ton of cash, sure PCI-e is definitely the superb platform. But most people still using AGP don't have a lot of cash, thus the reason why they are not using PCI-e yet.

I too am starting to have my doubts now. I have called eVGA twice now since my original call more than a month ago and now they just say that they are watching the AGP situation but in all likelyhood they won't be releasing anything in the next couple of months :(
because of MikeC i'm going pcie... :)
...so long AGP :D
Stop me if you’ve heard this before.
According to reports from Asia, Leaktek has produced a new run of 7800 gs cards but with a G71 (7900) GPU.
http://64.233.179.104/translate_c?hl=en&u=http://www.cooling-station.net/forum/viewtopic.php%3Ft%3D1795&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dleadtek%2Bwinfast%2Ba7800%2Bgs%2Bg71% 2Bbenchmarks%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DG
Asian retailers already have this card for sale. They claim the card has 20 pipes, the GPU runs at 375 MHz, and it has 256MB of memory running at 1200 MHz.

Leaktek won’t confirm the specs, but they say that the new run of cards should reach US retailers in a week or three. They said the card should have the same specs as the ones currently for sale in Asia.
One site claims Leadtek has, or will have, a bios update to unlock the disabled pipes. I have my doubts, but who knows for sure.

I haven’t seen any benchmarks for the card, or screen shots confirming its specs, so take everything with a grain of salt.
I apologize ahead of time if I've messed up the links.

Good post. I was hoping for a 512MB variant- but oh well. I might get this card, but even if I do- I will still probably go SLi shortly after my getting it. I think I've found another person who could use such a card. ;)

Wow, I just checked the clock speeds of the 7900GTX- there is no way GW's card could oc THAT high, atleast I doubt it could. And the memory would never make it- being that it is only 1.4ns.
Hopefully eVGA's card will be capable of hitting stock 7900GTX speeds. For both clock and memory. It'd be a lot better if they even paired their card with some honest 1.1ns memory.
I had EVGA cards before and they are crap!:thumbdwn:
They overclock too much and the cards when reaching 60C they get busted.
Also the GAinward 7800GS+(7900GTcore) can go SAFE on 500MHZcore/700MHZVram and this give you 51GB/S,tested in my card.:D
The standard clock gives you 46.1GB/s (450mhz/625mhz).
Also Evga has lots of cards pulled back for that reason.
On this card the only bad thing is you should not pushed over the GTX clocks, because was not designed as GTX, the core runs on 1.2V GT (compare to 1.4V GTX) but you could try the volt mod aas the board is the standard PCI express just down to agp.

Hello Troll :tool:
Just FYI to the people that might be uninformed(like the guy above). EVGA is one of, if not the BEST Video Card Brand out there. They have excellent support, warranty service, clock speeds, and reliability. To me, EVGA sets the tone for how all other video card companies should be. BFG and XFX fall under this same category. However, your little "Gainward" company does not in the least bit. They are improving from what they use to be, but for a LONG time they have been releasing subpar products with subpar warranties.
Now you are informed ;)
