View Full Version : Evga says 7900 AGP coming soon!

Just spoke to Evga sales this morning and inquired if they have anything coming down the pipe to compete with Gainwards 7800 AGP card, and the fellow said that if I could wait a bit they will have a new 7900 AGP product for sale in the near future. He said he couldn't disclose any more information than that.
Still, this is quite good news for us North American AGP users! Here's hoping its not a severely crippled port ala the 7800GS. ;)
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!! ty for that news sir. This will make it to where I can hold out a lill longer for a FULL system upgrade.

That's exactly what I'm hoping for as well. I'll be honest, I was strongly considering importing that Gainward card- but if eVGA says a new card is due to be out soon, I'll wait.
Just curious though, what will the specs be? 24 pipe? 20 pipe? 16 pipe (it better not be)? How much memory will it have? 256? 512? What about clocks speeds and memory speeds? Will it be dual slot or single slot?
I sure do hope that it isn't a crippled card. That would really tick me off- so much so that I might just import that GW card. Heck, with a good enough OC you can make that GW 7800GS+ a 7900GTX essentially. Not bad at all.
Is eVGA the only other company to release such a board? Any plans from ASUS, BFG, or XFX?

Wow, I just checked the clock speeds of the 7900GTX- there is no way GW's card could oc THAT high, atleast I doubt it could. And the memory would never make it- being that it is only 1.4ns.
Hopefully eVGA's card will be capable of hitting stock 7900GTX speeds. For both clock and memory. It'd be a lot better if they even paired their card with some honest 1.1ns memory.
Well I just registered my 2 7800GS's this morning, with eVga. So I hope these cards come out soon enough to fit within the "Step Up" Program. :D

You know, I've thought about getting the eVGA 7800GS just for the purpose of that step-up program. But I dread doing it because I fear that the eVGA card will just be another crippled 7900- which I pray it is not.

I think people who look forward to get 7900 AGP card will be in huge disappoint that you may cant get one because here will be not so many AGP cards based on G71. The Inquirer reported that manufacturers will make only 1500 (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=31169) Geforce 7900 AGP cards.

If I were you I'd just bite the bullet and get a new S939 PCI-e motherboard and a 7900-series vidcard to go with it. A similarly performing combo of such will probably end up cheaper than a single 7900 AGP card.

Why th heck would I buy a S939 board when M2 and Conroe are just around the corner, for the next wave of the CPU Wars?
While I don't think M2 will be much initially, I'm still interested in how AMD is gonna fight back, later, 2007ish.
So I'll stick with my perfectly good AGP rig until then. ;)

Exactly. I'm running a 3700 @ 4000 speeds on my trusty K8V SE Dlx which sports 4 SATA ports, plus PATA RAID, and supports all but RAID5 and can handle up to 3 gigs of ram. Why in the world would I want to replace it?
A COMPARABLE s939 setup INCLUDING the 7900GT would definitely cost more than the 7900 AGP. Here's why:
A new processor. I'm not settling for less than what I already have. That would require a 3800 or better. But since it would be s939- I might as well go dual core. There's about $200 or $300 right there. Plus, the dual channel ram coming in at 3 gigs (two one gig sticks for 2gigs dual channel and two 512mb sticks for one gig dual channel for a total of three gigs) so that comes to another $300 to $400. So far we are at about $500 to $700. Now, add a 7900GT to that and you have about $800 to $1k. And you say it'd be cheaper? Sorry, my current rig could put some none SLi mainstream s939 systems to shame.
Also, it would be EXTREMELY retarted to fork out ANY money for a s939 setup when it'll be replaced in less than a year. I have a pretty high end system as is, there isn't much it CAN'T do- save for hard core multi-tasking which I don't do anyway.
Nope, the 7900AGP is definitely the cheaper and more cost effective route. If the new socket were further away than it is, sure I'd upgrade to s939. But since its release is so close, forget s939.

The "1500" is just Gainward alone.
Wow this will be the shortest computer upgrade I have ever had, thank goodness for the step up program.

Is eVGA the only company so far that says they'll be offering such a product? Any word from ASUS, XFX, BFG or other such companies?
hmm, just uninstalled a EVGA 7800GS Super OC for the Gainward card...
of course, the Gainward card blew away the 7800GS - afterall it is a G71 chip in disquise...
question is, if they keep selling these super AGP cards to match the PCI-e cards, how can they say that AGP is dead???......
so when doe we see the 8000 GS AGP - with DX10????....:D :D :D
so where is this 7900GT by Evga?

I'm starting to doubt that it is coming at all. In fact, I'm thinking of going PCI-E/SLi come next month.

Well I guess You can say that AGP is at the end of it's road, I mean, They may still upgrade to next generation GPU on the AGP x8 interface, but as far as AGP architecture, it is at its limit. For instance, it still runs parallel to the CPU with about 1Gb of bandwidth and it can only incorporate a single link TMDS DVI port with a maximum 1600 x 1200 digtal signal.
Where as the PCI-Express architecture has gone to 32 PCIe Lanes for SLI Graphics and runs its data Serial to the CPU and allows upto TWO DUAL Link TMDS DVI Digital Ports on both the 7900 GT and 7900 GTX that is needed to operate Twin Dell 30" or Apple 30" inch Digital Wide Flat Panel Displays at a cool 2560 x 1600 Resolution from a single PCI-Express Graphics card.
It just seems to me that if You want to go to HIGH Resolution Gaming, You are going to have to switch to the PCI-Express Architecture.

If you are referring to bandwidth I beg to differ. Show me the game that can fully utilise all the bandwidth AGP8x offers.
But, alas, I agree that its coffin is sealed and the hole is being filled. That's why, probably next month, I'm going SLi.

My New GWard 7800 GS+ AGP has duel link. "2 x DVI-I (dual link) - 29 pin combined DVI"

Keep your eyes open for an AGP part ;)

how long should we be keeping out eyes open for? I don't want to upgrade my whole pc soon but my current vid card is dying and I want to replace it.
Sorry guys, wrong info, I am unsure :(
to heck with it im just gonna build a whole new system.
