42.XX Driver install problem. Help please

My PC specs are as follows:

AMD Athlon XP 1900+
PNY nVidia GeForce 4 Ti 4600
512 MB Crucial DDR SDRAM
Gigabyte GA-7DX Mobo
Seagate Barracuda 60 GB HDD
Windows XP Home
Direct X 9 Installed

Now, my problem:

Ever since the Detonator drivers from 42 on up came out,
I have not been able to get them to install. I have tried
installing them through the Update Driver utility. I have tried
installing them manually, through the Launch Icon in whatever
driver version I happen to be trying to install. I keep getting
errors, such as "Windows cannot copy nv_mini_sys file", or
"Windows cannot copy nv_display_dll"...etc etc.
I checked the install from path, and it is/was correct.
And yes, I made sure that I had UNINSTALLED all previous
driver components.

Up until the 42 series came out, I never had a problem installing
drivers of any kind. This truely has me stumped. I would like to
be able to take advantage of the newer drivers that come out.
I am currently running the 41.09's. Of course, any resolution
above 1280 x 1084, with Anisotropic filtering at 2X, and/or
AA on, renders a game almost unplayable. (30-45FPS)
Anything below 60 FPS is highly noticeable by the human eye.

Tricks/tips/suggestions?

Well, I got the 42.01's to install. Good drivers. Good image,
3Mark score, and color and refresh seems better.

Maybe the 42.51's and the 42.70's I had tried to install
were just a bad download. Then again I downloaded them
3 times, from different places.:confused:

I also got nVClean. Highly recommended.

I would still like to know what was causing the problems
with the 42.51 and 42.70 drivers, if someone can help.

I also have the same problem. After reading your post, I'm thinking it may have something to do with upgrading from the 41.09 drivers (which I also currently am using).

I found a solution. Mostly from reading some of the other posts
here

First of all, the 42.51's and the 42.70's I got from Guru, were just
bad downloads. I downloaded them last night from
Warp2Search, and there were files in those downloads,
that were not in the guru's downloads. I would suggest
getting the Dets from somewhere other than Guru,
for the time being.

Also, when I uninstall drivers, now I do the following.

1.) Remove the old drivers through the Add/Remove utility.

2.)When I re-boot, I re-boot into Safe mode. XP will not try to
load any previous drivers this way, so you get a cleaner install.

3.)Once in Safe Mode, I go to where my nVidia Driver folder is
and delete the whole thing.

4.)I then use nV Cleaner (can be found at Guru) and delete all the
previous registry artifacts.

5.) I then install the new drivers as normal, through the driver's
setup launcher. (This was one of the things missing from the
downloads I got from Guru)

5 steps, and you get a good, clean, install.:)

On a side note. I tried the 42.51's, 42.30's, and the 42.70's.
After running 3D Mark and several games with each set of drivers,
I finally decided that those 3 Dets., were not really good.
(For my comp. at least.) I tried the 42.01's and am
quite happy with those. 3D Mark scores run at default
with the 42.01's were: 10324

Not my highest ever score, which was a 10994
with the old 40.41's. But the image quality of the 42.01's
is noticeably better, and they seem very stable so far.
