Load DX9 if you haven't. Remove any traces of the nvidia drivers. Load the latest Catalyst 3.0 from ATI's website. Download the DX9 demos as well, they are cool.

thanx for the pointer, ill probably end up reformating, i usually do, for big new hardware, mouse no, video card yes.
i probably dont need to tell you this, but when you do the reformat make sure to get the very latest chipset drivers, especially the AGP driver. Every lit bit of performance helps.
And for the R9700Pro, I HIGHLY recommend Rage3d Tweak, it'll give you all kinds of nice features, and is a very complete program. http://www.rage3d.com/r3dtweak

Yup. Good competition breeds lower prices, better performance, and more features.
Go nVidia! :D

And posts like this sound like they're coming from a moron. ;)
When the 9700Pro came out, the 4600 had already been around for a while. The drivers were rock-solid, and while ATI had been making steady headway with their drivers as far as quality and performance vs. nvidia's history, they had yet to prove themselves. The 9700Pro has finally matched nVidia (imo), but nobody could really expect that when the card first launched. (In fact, I had a 4600 when the 9700 launched, and I've waited this long for that very reason).
IMO, the only sheep around here are those that blindly follow one brand or another without a better reason than 'ATI SUX' or 'NVIDIA SUX'. Seems to me that you've been doing that quite a lot. The fact that the 9700Pro is a good card and might actually be justifiable for purchase compared to the current competition in no way changes this.
In other words, go away troll.
I apologize in advance to all the others here who are trying to hold civil discussions on the two cards / companies, but R9700PRO has been being annoying with this crap, so I finally had to spew a bit (basically, letting it bleed off some).

Thanks R9700PRO. Coming from you, that's a compliment.
Seriously, I have enough common sense and enough of an open mind to decide what fits my needs best at the time I'm ready to make a purchase. Proof of point: Why else do you think I elected to get the 9700Pro instead of the GF-FX?
In the meantime, your posts prove who's a mindless sheep more with every entry you make. :p

I guessed it would make you laugh. Trolls generally get a thrill whenever they get a rise out of the targets of their inflammatory posts. ;)
Anyhow, that's it from me for now. This topic seems to be dying without our posts anyway..

hope you like your new card, expecially considering the boost in iq that you'll get..

Thanks Spliffstar,
That's the main selling point for the 9700Pro for me. The performance matches (or nearly) the latest nV card out, and it still is capable of better in-game IQ.
BTW, mine finally arrived. Too bad my clan had a match scheduled tonight, so I couldn't do my upgrade yet. And since I have an extra long work day tomorrow, it'll probably be Saturday before I can play with the new toys

by "latest nv card out" do you mean GF4? - 9700 pro absolutely kills that.
or the FX? which isn't actually out yet. and since the Ultra has been canned, there's just the 400MHz version to compete with, which the 9700 pro also beats (as does the 9500 pro, maybe).

No to question one, yes to two, and this was still under the assumption that the Ultra version was still going to make it to market (btw, based on the rumors, the Ultra IS still going to make it, just not as a regular production part- see the news page.)
