Here's my delima. I sold my old LCD monitor to buy the Dell 2407 monitor 2 months ago. Problem is this stupid freaking monitor STILL isn't out. Since December I have been hearing it will be released "any day now". I'm tired of waiting. While my CRT is a quality monitor, its ugly and I want it out of my house.

Anyway, I hate running a resolution less than 1600x1200 in games. I think buying a monitor that is 1680x1050 widescreen would bug the hell out of me due to the less resolution(its basically running 1280x1024 with more view.. no thank you). <---EDIT: looks like I put my foot in my mouth. :D

I am still buying the 2407 when it comes out, but I need an extra monitor anyway. Should I buy the 2001FP from Dell? Is the 2001 good for gaming? Or is there another monitor around $400 I should be looking at? Thanks

2001 == EOL, it's been replaced by the 2007FP.

It is a good display and you can game with it if needed.

The 2407 has sampled and has been displayed, I know I have used one. I don't know the exact release date. There are no active SKU's for it currently.

The 2001FP is a very old LCD. I was great 2 years ago but now the new generation of LCD panels are much better. If you can find a super deal then take it but I suggest you hold off and save your money for something better like the 2407.

I'm still buying the 2407. I'm just sick and tired of waiting on it. I just purchased the 20" BenQ monitor I linked above. The lower resolution(1680x1050) might bug me some, but you can't beat that price. Hopefully that stupid 2407 will come out sometime this century.

I'm going to wait til the 2407 drops at least $300 in price to recover what I paid for this LCD monitor I just bought. So basically in the end, I'll get a "free" 20" monitor because I would have bought the 2407 on release date if I wouldn't have gotten this monitor. :D

Yea. Dell will release the 2407 at something like $1400. I'm looking to buy it at around $1000, which will take all of 2 weeks. :D

I seriously doubt it will be anywhere even close to $1400.

The 3007 has been down to about $1699 and you have to keep a price-point for the 2707 when it debuts.

I'm thinking more in the area of $999-$1099 for the 2407. The 2405FPW is an awesome LCD and the price of that is about $780-$849 depending on the current deals available.

Yes, the 2405 is an awesome LCD. The only reason I have one ATM is due to it not having HDCP. It would suck to buy such a nice monitor right now only to have the 2407 come out "any day now" and it supports HDCP.

If I were in the market for such a "small" (lol!) display, I would be waiting for the 2707. :)

I've been doing the same waiting game. It really pisses me off because I've been getting these massive discounts through Dell credit and through Dell Small Business and I can GUARANTEE that when that comes out all my good stuff will be expired.

Plus, I hope they don't mess up with the 2407 like they have with all the other xx07 monitors. In all the 07 monitors, it seems, they are using 6bit panels and have banding issues.

Suck? No. Perfect? No.

I don't regret getting it, or the 42W2. The 42 was an awesome monitor as well, but I need the cash right now (or rather debt relief lol) and I like the somewhat tighter pixel pitch on the 37.

I am in the market for a new tft screen but there is nothing relatively cheap that supports hdcp so it means more waiting. This 17 incher is giving me really bad eyestrain.

Ok so my BenQ FP202W came in and let me tell you guys it ROCKS! Probably one of the best $300 bucks a person can spend. I have one stuck pixil that is in the bottom right corner. You don't even notice it unless you turn on a black screensaver and really look hard to examine it. Most people who recieve this monitor state they have ZERO dead pixils, so this is not even an issue.

I couldn't be happier with this size LCD. If you are in the market for a cheap LCD that looks GREAT, look no further than the BenQ 20.1" Widescreen FP202W.

Deserves a 2 thumbs up

The 2001 is still an awesome lcd, no ghosting at all, but there still is some extra motion blur effect, "im very picky". For me to upgrade this LCD, there would need to be an LCD with a 4-6ms on white-black-white transition.

That makes no sense at all. How can you say there is no ghosting but there is motion blur? Motion Blur effect = Ghosting ;)

Ghosting is when you see double.. it's the way i've always taken the terminology..

Thats sort of what a motion blur is... I think thats what he was referring to.

Ghosting:
A problem in LCD screens when tiny pixels creating the image take time to switch on and off and can't do it fast enough. The problem, widely recognized as the main drawback of LCD screens, is apparent in fast moving objects such as tennis balls, but even slower moving images get fuzzy.

If take your mouse and drag it across a black screen at a normal speed(not too fast or slow), and you see a "ghost" of your mouse following behind that is ghosting. Even if you barely see a "ghost" of your mouse following behind.

If you are playing a video game and you turn and do a 180 to look behind you very quickly and see a slight "blur" while turning, that is ghosting.

When someone talks about LCD motion blur, they are talking about ghosting. They are the same thing. I believe you are refering ghosting to be the problem where you have two monitors and you see a "ghost" of one monitor on another. That is not ghosting. That is merely an error with the video card or drivers causing that problem.

it is VERY nice. I actually already stated it earlier. But the monitor is the absolute best monitor for the money right now. Very bright and from what I am hearing noone is having a problem with dead pixils at all.

The only thing that is subpar on the monitor is the stand. It is VERY simple. Its basically a stand that will only rotate the screen slightly up and down. Thats about it. For a $300 monitor, this is hardly something to complain about. ;)

Definitely a BUY. Its $300 at NEWEGG, so if you don't like it you can always send it back. New Egg customer service = BEST
