Hello everyone,

I just got an Asus 87N8X Deluxe and put it together but when I turn it on there is no signal to my monitor. This is what I installed on it...

AthlonXP 2600(166fsb)
2x256 DDR333
Ti4600
Maxtor ATA133 80GB

I tried to keep it at a minimum for starting out. I have swapped out the CPU and tried an AthlonXP 2000(133fsb) and haved also tried swapping out the video card for a Ti500 but to no avail.

I have also manualy changed the fsb from jumperless to 133 and then 100mgz.

One thing of note is that I only had a regular IDE cable so it's not an Ultra ATA cable required for my hard drive. Though this is a problem I will fix, I figured even if there was an issue I should at least get to the BIOS.

When I turn the power on all the fans and my hard drive spin up but my minitor just stays in sleep mode.

Any ideas would be a great help, thanks.

Try this site (www.nforcershq.com) as well..

Are you getting a green LED on your motherboard? It should be right next to the AGP slot I believe..

Green = good..

Red = bad..

Also try swapping out your monitor cable if you have a spare..

OK, i read quite a few threads on that forum with people having similar problems. Some think it may be PSU related.

I plugged in my speakers so I could hear the voice thingy but it didn't say anything when I turned in the computer. Same ol' fans and HD turning but no POST.

So I took out both sticks of RAM, still no voice.

So I took out the CPU too, finally I got a voice saying "no cpu installed, no cpu installed, no...". Really quite annoying if somewhat informative of the obvious.

I am thus assuming that my board probably works. I am pretty sure both those Athlons work as well as the RAM. Thus leavinmg me with an insufficient PSU? It is an enlight 300W. I will be disappointed if I have to get a new PSU.

Just ordered the Antec True550 beast. This better work and I better not have to get a new PSU for a long time...:argh:

I got a vantec VA4 while I was at it. Might as well reduce noise as much as possible...:thumbsup:

peace out and thanks :afro:

Hello all...again...

I got a 350watt PSU and some differnet RAM and tried those in my system. Niether worked. I also tried switcing the monitor, also no go. So this is what I have switched out so far...

Video Card
CPU
RAM
Monitor
PSU

Once again, all the fans turn on and the green light is on, I tested the lines with a volt meter and they all look good, but monitor just stays blank. If I take out the CPU it yells at me, otherwise it does absolutely nothing.

The only thing left is the MB. Are the stand offs the board is mounted on supposed to be insilated? I have an Aluminum case with metal standoffs and metal screws, could this be shorting something? Never had a problem with them before, but...

Disregard this if you've done this already...but if not, this could help isolate the problem...

Take everything out of your system...remove the CMOS battery and let things sit overnight...Now, with only the CPU, Memory, and graphics card installed try installing the CMOS battery again booting up the system...( NO other components or peripherals installed ).

Are there any beep codes/messages?

Report back how far things got and we'll take things from there...

Good luck!

:D

I will be more baffled than anything. Not that I would complain but why would it work? It really doesn't make much sense to me unless there's some residual charge causing some funkiness in the CMOS or something. If so that's just bad board design.
