Hi,
There're 2 cards in front of me to choose from which is better ...

XFX 6600GT 128MB ... 118$
XFX 6800 128MB ... 139$

which is better, btw, the 6800 has 1 unlocked Vertex Shader, 6 total, but only 12 Pixels.

I would take the 6800 anyday over the 6600gt.
Mainly because the 6800 has a 256bit memory bus and 12 pixel pipes

versus the 6600gt with 8 pixel pipes and a 128bit memory bus.

plus if its and AGP 6800 you have a chance to unlock the 4 disabled pipes.

How abour about an XFX 6800GS XXX ... 220$?

I take it you're stuck on agp? If so then get the regular 6800, the 6800gs is simply an overclocked 6800.

If you're not planning to upgrade for a while after, get the 6800GS. The 6800GS is MUCH better than the plain 6800. the plain 6800 has a 128bit memory bus, not 256bit, while the 6800GS DOES have the 256bit memory bus. Furthermore, while the 6800GS does have less pipes than a 6800GT, the GS is clocked at higher speeds so it can sometimes beat out the GT in benchmarks. Also you'll be getting 256 MB of DDR3 memory with the GS, while the plain 6800 has 128 MB of plain DDR memory.

If you do plan to upgrade soon after getting this card, go for the 6600GT, its performance is about equal to the plain 6800 because the 6600GT has DDR3 memory.

Nope, all 6800's have a 256bit bus.

ah you're right, just checked on my old 6800 NU box. i got mixed up because I was looking at this 6800 earlier which does have a 128bit bus http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814121216

still, the plain 6800 is weakened quite a bit by using the plain DDR, rather than DDR3 memory which the GS has, so it isn't very accurate to say that the GS is just an upclocked 6800.

Except for the fact that you more than likely could unlock the pipes on the GS where as you couldn't on the NU. I've seldom seen any body turn a NU into an Ultra- and have the card last for a while.

Hands down, get the 6800GS. Slap an NV5 on that baby (extra $30 or so), unlock the pipes and oc it till the card cries. That'll keep ya' happy for awhile. ;)
