Bad news, this could lead to its complete cancellation. I remember games that showed up in playable form at e3 that no one ever heard of them again. Abducted and Duality are good examples.

What, just not being there? I hope not, I'd love to see this game.

Yep I do hope that it sees the light of day. Who doesnt.
If you actually read the article you'd see that the reason for not showing up is to not interrupt the development momentum Remedy has atm.
For us it's a bit of a disappointment indeed, but this shows how determined Remedy is to this game, to let E3 slip. So, in a way, this is positive news.

I read the posted links before commenting. Well that is called an excuse they needed to have one btw.
ow, sorry.
well, i've worked at Streamline game studio for some time and i know how crunchtime weeks can be very stressfull, especially if it's 'just' for a beta build for showdisplay.
It's possible they're in a 'flow' atm were things are going really fine. Any interruption might ruin that.

Maybe they care so much for the game that they don't want to show it in an unfinished build? I mean the developers of Gothic 3 sure don't care about the game considering the crap they showed last year...
I wouldn't say the development is canceled untill theres something more then just "It wont be at E3". Plenty of games wont be there that are in development...
i think one of the resond that alan wake is not at e3, is that remedy has not a publisher for alan wake.i find that strange that remedy can not get a great publisher for this game.i dont think they will use take2 any more, becuse remedy acused take2 of marketing max payne2 to little.i think any publisher is stupid not to publish alan wake.
Damn that kinda sucks, I don't think its canned, but I would like to see it this year.

Man, I heard about this game, what, 2-3 years ago. Just cancel it and get on with completing the Max Payne trilogy!

remedy has sold all rights from max payne to take2,so no more max payne games from remedy.i think we will see a new max payne game this year, but it will nothold the same quality as the first 2 max payne games.

Why couldn't Remedy make Max Payne games? Publishers often get 3rd party developers to develop games... ID Software owns the Quake license but Raven Software were the ones to develope it.
Heck Take 2 publishes many games they do not own the license to and mane developers have made games under the Take 2 banner even though they didn't own the IP or even developer studio.
Another example of this is KOTOR 2, Bioware owns the rights to the game but had Obsidian develop it, heck Obsidian is also developing NWN2...
Considering how well the last two Max Payne games did, I do not dout that Take 2 would allow them to make another one... Take 2 still makes tons of money and doesn't have to worry about their internal studios being taken up by the project.
If the whole 'publisher story' is true, that's sour. I think Alan Wake is a game Remedy itself really wants to make. Maybe it lacks a bit too much 'conventional
action' in the eyes of the publishers.. beh !

It's too early in development for them to worry about lacking a publisher, If anything Im willing to guess that Take 2 or Ubisoft would be willing to publish it.
The game doesn't even have a firm date yet...
dwhjr77, How did you hear about the game 2-3 years ago? It was announced and shown off for the first time last year...

All other Remedy games have been sponsored by 3dRealms. This one is not, and I wonder why 3drealms didn't sponsor this one.

You are mistaken. When Max Payne 2 came out, Remedy was showing off this game via 1-2 screenshots and I was like "wow, Remedy is on a roll".
I read PC gaming mags carefully. ;)

If IGN didn't know anything about it im pretty dam sure that no magazine did.
Max Payne 2 sold well overall, however, Remedy said it was below expectations.
