Hail, how are you gentlemen ?

Too bad... looks like i cant use a geforce fx card because i cant use a agp8x card in a normal pentium 4 agp4x motherboard ;(((

My question is... i need a new card, and i want to know wich is the best that i can get, will there be any new cards that i can use now, or will they all be agp8x ?

Indeed. Why not? It'll revert back to AGP4X, which makes no difference, really :p

My AGP 8x Radeon 9500 works perfectly fine in my AGP 4x Abit KR7A-RAID.

There's no reason the FX won't do the same.

Huh ? are you saying that i can use a geforce fx card in a agp2 or 4x or whatever motherboard ?

I was thinking i could... but when i went to a shop the man said that he was 99% sure i could not do that... he said that the actual geforce4 agp8x had lots of problems with the agp4x motherboards...

If i have a pentium 4, i must have a 350w power_thing so i can use a geforce fx card ?

1. The guy who told you that an AGP8x card won't work in a AGP4x slot is full of crap. It will work fine, as long as your mobo is semi-decent.

2. Do you NEED a 350W PSU? Good question. As of yet, nobody really knows--the GFFX hasn't been tested (as far as I know) on anything less than that.

I would guess that yes, you can run it on a much smaller PSU, but there may very well be problems with it. Basically, the 350W thing is a guarantee that you won't have power problems.

Another statistic for ya: 99% of the guys at local shops know jack squat. At least this is true in my area

the person who told you that should be fired and replaced with me or someone else who actually has some kind of clue as to what reality is then :p

650w !? jesus, how can that be... i know there are 500w power_things, but 650w...

No no no! the guy is very cool! and the good thing is that he knows everything abou new hardware and ****, for example, i asked if i should buy a new motherboard to use the geforce fx, and he told me not to buy anything now and wait for a motherboard that suports serial ata, bla bla bla...

I will now wait, and see when it comes out... if i really can use it with agp4x and 350w.

Methinks your guys is shooting his mouth off to get you to spend more money. All you're looking for is a video card, but he's telling you to wait for a motherboard that supports this, that and the other feature. When that comes, he's going to tell you get your video card, motherboard, and this, that and the other peripheral which is now supported by said motherboard. Before you know it, you're walking out with a lot of stuff you hadn't intended to buy in the first place.

If he's a salesman he's just doing his job, but it's also your reponsibility to not be taken advantage of. But FYI, there is no immediate, tangible benefit to serial ATA (as evidenced by the Envy News review of Seagate's SATA drive) or AGP 8x (as evidenced by countless reviews on the web).

If you have a system of ~1.5 GHz or better, you could simply upgrade your video card and still notice quite a difference in your games. If you're below that, you can get a good motherboard with a lot of headroom to upgrade without having to spend a fortune for features like Serial ATA, etc.
