I've decided to skip the geforce FX and also the nforce2 mobo's and wait for the NV35 or R350 and Athlon hammers. So right now i have about $500 CAD. and i think ill get a new monitor instead. I've looked around and saw a samsung 191T for as low as $1148 and a Sony G520P for $1175. I have a samsung 955df right now. what's a better upgrade?

For that kind of money I'd get a 2000FP from Dell. 3 year warranty on the entire unit, over 20" viewable, 1600x1200 native mode and 25ms response time. It can be had for $999 and only a couple weeks back it was 15% off. Even @$999, it still is a better deal than the samsung (which btw is also availabe from Dell as the 1900FP).
I myself would go for another CRT if I was upgrading, and I would get the Iiyama VM Pro 512

Dell sells IIyama monitors? how much does dell charge for shipping?

You can usually find a free-shipping promo at Dell....Go check out GotApex?, FatWallet, or Techbargains and you're sure to find the good deals...
If you're gaming, I'd stay away from the 191T...The "1" signifies a first-generation...You'd be better off ( for an LCD ) with a model like the Hitachi ( with super-low response time ) or the 2000FP from Dell ( which I use and love ).
You'll find some a die-hard fans of CRT and an equal amount are die-hard fans of LCD's....Go into your local stores and try to take a good look at both to help you decide which is best for you...

I have to agree with you there pelly. LCDs have come a very long way. But if you compare say the Iiyama to the 2000FP, I still think that for half the price the Iiyama is the way to go, but maybe 2-3 years CRTs will be a thing of the past :p

Before that happens though, that big convex lcd has to A)Be smaller B)More sophisticated and C)Be much cheaper!
CRT all the way.
Are you looking for second hand monitor or a new one?
Go for the second hand, in monitors a second hand one is just as good as a new one.
The only advantage of an LCD is that they are lighter and take up less desk space. Apart from that, trust me, playing on a LCD screen in a dark room hurts your eyes a LOT for some reason. CRT displays are also a lot more crisp than LCD ones
I got my Sony :D second hand, from a woman who did not know much about computers etc. It was a divorce case and the woman (who happens to be my aunt) agreed to sell me the monitor for $800...:D Best part was that she felt guilty for selling me the monitor at such an "expensive" price.
Yeah i know, it is dirty but hey i got a kick ass monitor so i aint complaining.

Ebay seems to be the only way to buy 2nd hand monitors for me.
Are these things scams?

Monitors that come back with dead pixels are usually fixed then turned around to wholesalers.
It's a crap-shoot with those items.
And, looking at that ad, its not for monitors, its for some sort of list.
*THIS AUCTION IS FOR MY GREAT LIST AND NOT FOR A BRAND NEW LCD MONITOR*
READ:I' M THE ONLY USER ON EBAY ACTUALLY SELLING THE REAL WORKING LIST FROM WHOLESALE LISTS THEY ARE SELLING. BE CAREFULL OF IMITATORS, LOTS HAVE BEEN COPING ME.
Huh?????

The Samsung 191T is an awesome monitor, i was thinking about getting one myself, but then i read this article at AnandTech: The Future of Samsung (http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1780&p=3) and i decided to hold off buying a new monitor until the 192T comes out next fall :)

i currently have a 19" Sony G410, a Envision 980, Envision 17", and use samsung 755DF at school. I must say the Envisions have GREAT color, beating everything bar none. Sony has the best black and whites, great text, good geometry. Samsung are kinda in the middle, not too great in anything. For CAD/Text get a Sony. For games and movies get Envision.

No kidding. The guys selling those lists are sometimes too tricky for their own good though. I was searching for Ti4600 items last week, and came across an "ATI GeForce4 Ti4600" for like a $1. I thought that someone's pulling something, but just HAD to take a look. Sure enough, if was one of these list-sellers.
