Hopefully someone comes up with a hack to bypass the PPU detection. Even if it does require the hardware for certain effects (probably cloth simulation and such), it should still have software calculation for most things.

Oh, and here's a question: why would the game require a PPU if it's also development for the Xbox 360? Obviously it's just using the CPU to do the physics calculations in that version, why not offer the same option for the PC version?

If you don't have a ppu, you can use the "Cellfactor Editor" in the start menu. Under the file menu, click on LIMBO_FuelingStation.reb. After it loads, click on "Play!" under the Game tab.

It actually runs well; I have no idea why this is a PPU only game. Kinda fun to play around with everything, but I don't know how to do those super high jumps that were in the trailers...

edit:hehe my bad... after looking at FRAPS it actually at about 20fps :)

kinda sorta. I don't know how to get rid of all the map editing things (blue grid, huge checkerboard shapes).17967

Doesnt look all that special though.

Looked at the video?
As a physics implementation its pretty impressive, as a game, not that much.. hehe

Wow those screens completely show the BS that the PPU is. Why would anyone have that much **** laying around? It offers NOTHING to the game bu making it pretty, Physics can do so much more and all they care to show off is "look how much things we can throw around".

I will not get a PPU untill I see something use it smart... CellFactor is BS!

You do realize thats all we have ever been shown about the game right? Ever since it was first announced...

Nothing wrong with showing off what the game is good at :/

Think you'll find most game demos do that.

I find that most game demo's show off what the game is about and this looks no more then a technical demo of useless proportions. Why would I want to play a game that unrealistically throws tons of items in a level just for me to goof around with? I can just make an empty room in HL2 and throw a grav gun and objects in it if I wanted to do that...

Look at the first picture... It rediculous!

I believe the point is to showoff how your system fares under strain from physics simulations. Extreme physics simulations in this case. Anyone got any numbers on the PPU vs no-PPU scenario? (if indeed it is possible to run without a PPU).

I think this PPU thing is just a fad, but I can be wrong. With multicore CPU's emerging today in the mainstream, I hope that we'll have more than enough CPU power for this kind of job.

Or, alternativly, a CPU embedded PPU...that would be more logical, for me at least.

It ran fine for me in the Builder as big as I could actually make the window on a 1280x1024 desktop. Things exploded and flew around and it used up both CPU's. I think if they want this to be a true tech demo it should be playable without the PPU as well for benchmarking and visual purposes.
