I could not agree with this article more.

While we're on the subject of folk wisdom, remember the old adage that if something looks too good to be true, then it probably is. This isn't always the case, as some of the trailers for the titles listed below proved to be fairly honest indicators of what was to come. However, it's no secret that many people have been wowed by a 60-second clip of a forthcoming game, or even an actual demo version, and ended up disappointed once they actually purchased the title.

A quick look at the E3 2005 show report reveals the games that were the talk of the town a year ago. With E3 2006 around the corner, it's worth taking a glimpse in the rear-view mirror at last year's show to see which games delivered and which ones fizzled after the big event.

I don't understand all the fuss, especially with no booth babes this year. Man is it gonna be a cold show...

Sorry if I missed it but what game are they actually talking about?

I'm sorry but that article lacks some coherence. They list some game examples plus their thoughts on it.

It's not easy to draw a single conclusion about E3. Imho one certainly can't generalize it.

E3 is pretty fun times, alot of announcements and stuff like that, gonna be interesting to get a look at Wii (shudder) for example.
But its true that there is often a overhype of games that ends up leaving you feeling a bit cheated, since while it was a great game you just played, you were led to belive it was something even better..

E3 isn't always an amazing show, and it's had off and on years since the show was first conceived. Usually shows towards the end of one generation and the beginning of another aren't that great, example: E3 2005, as well as E3 2000 (Year of the Dreamcast, and Playstation 2 made a very small showing, with playable Onimusha as PS2's only highlight). Last year's E3 hype was based almost purely on speculation, on what people were "hoping" MS and Sony were going to show off... Of course, Microsoft unveiled their X Box 360 on MTV rather than at the expo, and Sony only had some videos of Lair, Final Fantasy VII, Killzone, and MGS 4. Where does that leave us for this year? Well, Microsoft is going ape **** with their 360 E3 coverage, and their focus is going to be the XBOX 360 instead of the XBOX. Playstation 3 is going to be playable this year, building up the hype train for the worldwide launch later this year.

I don't know, but the events of the second half of 2005 combined with the first half of 2006 (Launch of XBOX 360 and delay of Playstation 3) definitely serve as a prelude to a more dramatic and exciting E3 than anything at the end of 2004 and beginning of 2005 did.

This will be the biggest and best E3 if your into console gaming. Two new system launches and loads of surprises.

I agree...Last year was rather "Blah"...But this year promises to be outstanding. In addidtion to the consoles, I'm hoping we will see (or at least have announced) more UE3 games... :)

Well, yeah... anticipation is skyhigh.

If Sony doesn't deliver this E3, then they're screwed. It will have to be more than 2 or 3 playable PS3 games.

Nintendo's in a different position. They've got expectations to fullfill too indeed, but these do not depend so much on proof of power. In short ; imho Nintendo's in a slightly more comfy position than Sony.

I have only kept watch on E3 since I joined this forum which means I have only seen the E3 2005. While there looks to be alot planned for this years E3 for console gamers. There will still be some stuff for PC. I looking foward to reading about the new flash memory harddrives samsung is working on. This will be a good E3 I think.
