I'm surprised no one said anything about team fortress 2.... I guess everyone lost faith in that ever coming out.
Eh, I still want to play it but it totaly lost its chance. In 1999 when it was a big deal it was something really original and it looked great.
Now... no. Every game has team combat. Every game has classes.
The only thing this game will have differently than the other ones will be a few of the abilities and weapons... and thats just if they keep it like TFC. Something tells me they would end up ruining it and making it more realistic and tactical by getting rid of all of the cool unrealistic weapons (thats what they were going to do with it originally).
TF2 looked a bit like a more primitive BF2 (not graphicly ofcource) if I recall it right.. soldiers and tanks and whatnot..
I belive they had it in a PC Gamer magazine I had next to the old Prey and DNF, in the same issue.

Any word on if HL3 will be a new engine or just a source rehash?

Yep, I still have that issue.
Thats why I think they wouldnt stand a chance today if they kept the same focus (ie, semi-realism). The only way that game will be anything special is if they make it like TFC with more equipment. There arent currently any other games like that as far as I know. Where each class has totaly unrealistic but cool abilities or weapons. I loved that about TFC.
The concussion grenades (that people used to jump far), the flame grenades, the gas grenades that made you halucinate, the spy's special abilities (disguise, feign death, back stab), the spike shooting grenades, the charging sniper rifle, the engineer's ammunition stations and upgradable defense turrets, the demo man's remote mine\grenade launcher...
What a great game. It just severely needs some upgraded graphics and some new features to refresh the user base. Right now, TFC is like one of those games where you go in and get your ass owned because the only people that still play are the ones that have ONLY been playing TFC for like 8 years.

Na, they will start over from scratch at that point to keep up with Team Fortress 2's graphics

What could they possibly show about HL3? I mean, the storyline is Half-Life's greatest asset but with at least 2 unreleased episodes (you guys are saying 4, which is believable) wouldn't this just ruin the storyline in all of the episodes? I think that a tech demo the graphical features that could be in HL3 but not the current episodes is more likely, but even that's a bit far fetched.

Does anyone smell history repeating? Valve showing scripted videos of something that won't be complete for another 2 years?

Does it matter? Were all still going to buy it, just like we bought HL2...

I find this very hard to believe considering the projects they are working on, now TF2 maybe.
Edit: This is pure bs, Valve aren't even going to E3, check the steampowered forums.

I see nothing at all regarding an official statement, only one from a Volunteer Moderator... which means nothing.

We are not showing at this year's e3, but please feel free to contact me with any future inquiries you may have for Valve.

Valve never has their own booth. Last year they had demo's setup at ATIs and Microsoft's booths...

well we will see ;)
There was a thread at the TeamXbox forums with the same exact source material except that the OP later admitted that it was bull on his part.

I can't imagine why they'd invest so much into Source and then stop using it. Besides, I seem to remember reading an interview with Gabe or some other big wig at VALVe saying that they were going to be using Source for years to come because of the super upgradability of it or something.

I swear I remember Gabe saying that they will make an announcement on which console they will be developing for @ E3. Later it was found out that its the 360. But I thought that would mean they are gonna be at E3.

Not if it doesn't release for another two years... could just be a technical demo of the next version of the source engine...

Well I just read on the Steam forum that valve will only be actually making 1 more HL2 episode, and then focusing on HL3 leaving eps 3 and 4 up to another developer, I doubt we'll see any HL3 anoucement, but possibly some nextgen source tech demos instead

Good point. Im just always looking for the newest and greatest game engines. I suppose source could be added too easy to look newer (HDR for example or higher quality textures).

True, but I'd hope they would learn their lesson and only show something finished. Nothing wrong with announcing it, but be honest about where its at this time...
