2:02 Final announcement! For PS3! E3 is so damn exciting sometimes. What is it?!

FINAL FANTASY XIII. FINAL FANTASY XIII. They pulled a serious bait-and-switch on us. Sword-and-gun-wielding heroine who looks like Yuna, flipping her way around a high-tech, futuristic world. No idea what it was until the end when that NAME popped up. Yoshinori Kitase directing! This is the guy behind all the best ones--VI, VIII, VIII, X. Be still my heart.

Wish they had some larger pics. I'd like to use two of them as desktop pics.

Yes, what with Japan's love for tedium, I'm sure the 13th installment of FF will thrill them...

Yeah, I have nothing against FF, great games, loved 8 in particular. But really, how long can they drag the series out? I mean, I understand that each one has a different premise, but it still holds more or less the same general concept, you know exactly what to expect from the game. Even the GUI in the SS's looks more or less the same from the previous 6 FF's. And I might add it has a querky over-futuristic look to it.

Square has a lot of talent, I think they should at least explore the FF world more and branch out into different segments of gameplay if they're going to continue the series.

Well the core Final Fantasy series im guessing will always stay the same (We need traditional RPGs, I love them) while they make new gameplay style games based off the universe. I mean look at Final Fantasy VII:DC and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, those are totally different from the main series.

Final Fantasy XII plays very different even though it looks like it plays the same. All battles now are faught in the same world and you could even get extra opponents if another monster wanders into your fight. The game also only allows you to control a single party member.

This one looks like it might play alot like Kingdom Hearts (we really don't know anything about it). Alot of action and movement going around, more then any other Final Fantasy yet. The bar at the bottom got me really interested though. If anything it might be a single character, no more parties by the look of the UI.

I just think it would be badass if Square could pull off a fully real-time combat system, but still do random fights. Tales of Symphonia set in the FF world if you will.

They did... Radiata Stories has a combat system just like the Tales series except that theres no random battles. I could see a Final Fantasy game doing this aswell but it would probably end up being a side story of sorts.

Yeah but I never hear about those obscure Japanese RPG's. :( I'd just like to see real-time combat in FF, hell, maybe even turn-based real-time combat. Anyone remember Quest 64? Effing loved that battle system too. :p

Vagrant Stories? Far better then Quest :p

Radiata Stories is truly an amazing game, awsome art and style. It's only $29.99 new aswell.

Well, now I just HAVE to get a Ps3! Even though it probably won't be out until 2100 here in Europe, I have to be prepared! ( Yes, I'm a FinalFantasy junkie!! and proud of it!) :D
Edit: Just watched the trailer and now my laptop is swimming in drool.... :-/

With the way Square/enix has been cozying up to M$oft, FFXIII just might hit the 360 eventually too. Still, I'd buy a PS3 just to play it, but not until the price drops under 400$.

Man, I'm still waiting for FFXII for the PS2. And where is my Final Fantasy game for the PSP? WTF? The whole reason I bought a PSP was to play japanese RPG's at work but they haven't released jack worth playing.

cozy with MS? You mean bringing them a single title and then announcing NOTHING else? The Square-Enix show had nothing relating to X360 other then FFXI, which is a port of the PC Version while PS3 is getting a new MMORPG.

Very old bump here (my how things have changed since the things said in the previous page)...anyways. Heres a short/blurry video of supposedly someone working on in the FFXIII white-engine (real time) using a wacom tablet. The same scene that was seen in the trailer.

How do you know it was realtime? Could have been a CG Scene he was working on.

I'm pretty sure it was real. He moved the scene around, the HDR lighting changed as he rotated the camera in real time. It was indeed a bit blurry, but theres one section where you can see polycounts not quite on CG level. If anyone is capable of this stuff it's Square Enix.

If you look hard enough, you can spot the differences between the image above and the one below...

It looks like he was just doing some CG in Maya. I haven't used maya for a long time, but I'm still pretty sure. It still looks great though! :)
