That's a big ouch to Sony IMO.

Yeah well untill its been stated publicly I will go off with ignoring that. We don't know when that was printed up and how accurate it is, even if it is from Sony.
You mean aside from the fact that all of this was stated in the Sony's E3 press conference? Okay.
I'll refrain from calling you a fanboy for now.

Only thing that was stated was the HD difference and price... never the removal of other features.

Don't worry, MS did the same thing. Life sucks then you get over it.

Only thing thats bothering me right now is that the 60GB Config is open-ended... meaning that retailers don't have to follow the $599 msrp.
PS3 fanboy power! (never deny it)
Oh and I do agree that it was in poor taste to rip-off Nintendo's Idea but then again... its only second nature to move to motion sensoring once the basic controllers have reached their limit. I do like Sony's setup better though, It looks more natural. I mean we all do those kind of movements during intense gaming (I remember on the NES moving my controller up and down to make mario "jump higher"). I also believe that they were thinking of this feature but never commited to it untill now, just like analog I think they would have made a controller later with it.
Heh, seems like a bargain when the only blu-ray player I can find for pre-order is $999. :)
While that's true, it has a reccommended MSRP of $599, meaning most retailers are going to follow that, and in theory that means that they could charge more for it, which is very probable at launch with retailers willingness to make as much money as possible.

Idiot. Retailers never charge more then MSRP (Actualy retailers not ebay). Also how many times this has to be repeated to the idiots out there (also fanboys of other systems) the PS3 isn't even close to the Rev controller. It doesn't track what you are actually doing it just has a tilt mechanism which shouldn't even be that hard to implement. You are not going to wield a sword using this controller.
Also that link is stupid because they said wireless and hdmi would be standard, because what is the point of having the 1080p feature when component can't handle 1080p in the first place. You are also going to need to have HDMI to watch blu-ray stuff so yeah think about it.

Welp, Slick was right... I guess they should make people aware that you wont be able to watch 1080p movies on the $499 config due to no HDMI output since I am lead to believe that it requires its higher banwidth that component cant produce.
Oh heres the confirmation... look at the two system configs pictures... one is clearly missing the HDMI output.

Sucks for people who are getting the low end version... I will be picking up the 60GB Config.
Banko your completly wrong... the $599 package is an open-ended sku meaning that retailers can charge what they want, they don't have to follow the msrp.

Well big retailers like Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart will sell it for $599. I work in Circuit City and have never seen anything higher then at least MSRP. Lower yes, but never higher.
Also about HDMI damn I guess I was wrong, sorry about the Idiot in the previous post then. Though what is the point of Sony advertising these features if the average consumer will probably get the $499 model?

No clue, looks like Sony is trying to ignore it right now to remove some of the negative press that it could generate when they stated that they wouldn't do an X360 kind of deal.
Oh and if Gamestop were to raise the price to $699, I wouldn't dout we would see the other retailers raise aswell why sell it low when they can make up alot of the cost initially? Retailers make NO MONEY from hardware so they must sell either alot of games and accessories with it or raise the cost of the system.
Basically its going to suck to be us at the end of this year...

Sounds like a pretty good price for free online service.
Heh, looks like I will be spending at least $599 then.
I can finally put my HDMI port on my Hitachi 70" to good use :)

I hope they have a VGA Adapter aswell, Would love to try it out on my monitor since my TV doesn't support 1080p, lol.
Oh, I should say this slick, you can't deny that even with those missing features the console is offering alot for the $499 price. It's still going to be cheaper then the X360 Premium + HD-DVD Addon. And the Free Online Gaming is a nice bonus aswell...

So wish they would have given the controller a 6 button layout and a new dpad for 2D fighters but I dout we will see much of them anyway. :(
Wonder when they are going to show off the backwards compatability for the console... wana see Shadow of Colossus in 720p with AA!

While I agree that they are giving you a lot for the $500 price tag, I wonder if it is really necessary. The most interesting thing I see is that PS3's price is basically so high because of the Blu-Ray drive. PS3 is depending on Blu-Ray to succeed, or that drive and extra cost will be all for naught. Either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray has to win the format war, and it is really a toss up at this point, so Sony is taking a risk with Blu-Ray. I think it would have been safer to stick with DVD and stay competitive price-wise with Microsoft. Compression is getting better and a lot can be done with 9gb.
Thankfully Microsoft has made it clear that the HD-DVD addon is NOT for games, and while it probably will be a cheaper alternative to a HD-DVD player, I think I'd rather get a decent quality one.
Buzz around TXB is that Microsoft may announce that Live will be free soon, but realistically I don't see that happening, would be nice though.
And for the record (not particularly directed at you Magus), I have nothing against the PS3, I gave up on the console war long ago, I just like to pick on Sony's marketing methods and their hype machine. While I admit I do like the Xbox's library much better, some PS3 games are looking more and more appealing, though none to really warrant a $600 price tag at this point.
Pros of the PS3 so far:
-It's black again, thank god.
-I'm impressed they managed to keep it in that case, hoefully heat won't be an issue.
-They reverted back to the old controller, another thank god. And are those R2 and L2 buttons analog? That would score another thank god. :p

The Triggers have been analog since the original PS2... the only part of the PS2 Controller that is not analog is the D-Pad. Play MGS2/3, You can hold down the button to have your weapon drawn and if you don't want to fire just slowly release it and it wont fire, do it quickly and the gun fires.
The reason Sony is so key on Blu-Ray is that IF it does take off they will make a fortune off it... far more then they did with DVDs. By including it with the PS3 they are making a market penetration even if the people who own the console have no interest in the movie playback function. Look at it this way, Imagine by end of next year Sony sells 12+ Million PS3s (they expect 6 Million by March), thats 12 Million Blu-Ray players... how many HD-DVD Players are going to sell? We really don't know but I dout 12 million, especially considering that at the same cost of a HD-DVD Player a person can buy a PS3 and have Blu-Ray Movies and a Game Console.
It's a giant risk but if it succeeds Sony is said to make billions off royalties from Blu-Ray.
