I just did a fresh Windows install and have only installed a few of my regular applications, and now InstallShield hangs at the "preparing to install" or "preparing to copy files" screens, just before it's about to start installing (after I've chosen install path and so on). It takes no CPU load and still responds, it just doesn't do anything.

Anyone experienced this before and know what might be wrong?

Thanks.

btw, I'm running WinXP SP1, never had any problems before really, but I do have some new hardware, P4-2.8, 512MB RDRAM w/ ECC on an Asus P4T533-C board.

Just wait for it, it hasn't crashed, it's just hiding :)

Seriously, on some systems for some unknown reason InstallShield will hang at the loading screen (little window) for as long as 5 minutes before continuing. Acrobat reader install used to do that on my work computer.
(Edit) This behavior is not consistent. If you installed the same app again, it might run straight away, or do the big wait again.

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago. Fresh install of XP+SP1, all latest drivers, etc. About the 2nd week, I noticed every app or game I installed, the InstallShield would run up to 99% and then hang. If I waited long enough, it would just disappear. Tried everything I could possibly think of, no luck.

Finally I reinstalled Windows and everything else and now it works fine. Have no idea what caused it.
