View Full Version : Overclocking Memory Pointless?

Ive decided that for my graphics card that overclocking the memory is utterly fruitless .Being a lame 6800td the stock is 700 but clocking it at 880 gives a mere 4 fps difference. As I use an NV5 with its heatsink plate that covers both ram chips and gpu I think that its best not to overheat the heatsink for the sake of a few fps coz this surely just makes things hotter for the gpu. Any opinions?

Yea, it's not really worth it from what I've found. The core is where its at ;)

Or a wanna-be?

But yes, I too have found that overclocking the memory doesn't have as much of an effect on FPS as core clock does. But it does help a little bit so you might as well overclock it..

It's not pointless.
It depends on GPU.

Slow GPU usually doesn't need high memory bandwidth.

It can be great in some cases on some cards ,like if you had a 7900GT reference card clocked at 450/1320 and overclocked it to 500/1600 ,it makes a big difference ,but on some cards I agree it makes little difference ,but in some games that 4 FPS to 5 FPS helps alot.

No offense to this Fatal1ty, but i would guess that the real one has a better rig, not that yours is crap, but well, you see what i mean :D
